The apparatus comprises structures designed to place the sensing element of the voltmeter in predetermined spaced relationship with the reproduction machine photoreceptor. A shutter is provided to close off the probe window when the apparatus is not in use and automatic switches are provided to couple the probe to ground to calibrate the probe and protect the probe sensing circuit in response to closure of the shutter. Remote means are provided to enable the probe to be moved into and out of operating position and to operate the shutter.

    • Single-wire data communications with data storage memory units that may be coupled with a wirelessly energized power supply is enabled in electronic monitoring modules in customer replaceable units (CRUs) such as toner bottles in image forming devices. Communication between modularly designed office equipment and installed CRUs may include data transmission implemented by providing a single point of contact on, for example, a rotational axis at the closed end of a rotating CRU, or by placing a conductive patch, band ring on the periphery of such CRU such that a single-wire data transfer contact is effected with the CRU. A communications link is provided which is not adversely affected by dirt or other foreign objects and is not limited by necessary motion which must be imparted to the CRU for optimum operation in the modular equipment within which the CRU is installed, or other interference that may adversely affects a wireless communications link.

The windows are divided into a plurality of non-overlapping tiles, the boundaries of which correspond to transitions from one window region to another. Each tile therefore defines an exclusive region within the array of image signals, and the image processing operations to be applied to the signals within the boundaries of that region. Tile data is stored in one of two memory banks, thereby enabling bank switching and reprogramming of the device in real-time to permit management of complex window shapes. The apparatus is designed to efficiently manage the identification of tile regions while minimizing the required decoding hardware. The apparatus also provides flexibility of programming resulting in greater efficiency of memory usage.
