    • The invention provides an adapter card for use with a computing apparatus executing in a multitasking environment program elements that implement call-related functional units requiring DSP (Digital Signal Processor) resources. In a specific example, the call-related functional units provide voice recognition services, IP (Internet Protocol) telephony and voice message, among others. The adapter card includes a switch that receives voice signals from one or more telephone lines physically connected to the adapter card. A digital signal processor is provided on the adapter card and can receive an audio signal from the switch for processing. When anyone of the call-related functional units needs access to the resources of the DSP, it issues a control signal to the switch that responds by directing the audio signal that is to be processed by the call-related functional unit to the digital signal processor. The results of the manipulations performed by the digital signal processor on the audio signal are then transferred to the call-related functional unit for further processing. The invention also provides a method and apparatus for processing calls implementing the above-functionality, and a digital signal processor featuring a switch capability coupled to a time-shared DSP resource.

    • A high pressure transducer has a metal housing with a main inlet high pressure port at one end and a reference pressure port at the other end. The ports communicate with a central hollow of the housing. Positioned in the hollow and communicating with the main inlet port is a first header welded to the housing and containing a first sensor device. Also positioned in the hollow and communicating with the reference pressure port is a second header also welded to the housing and having a second sensor device. There is another high pressure port on the housing and located between the inlet and reference ports to receive a main inlet high pressure as applied to said main inlet port and when a reference pressure is applied to said reference port. The applied pressures cause the first header weld to experience zero stress due to the application of the same main pressure to both the main inlet port and another pressure port. The second header weld experiences a weld pressure equal to the difference between the main high pressure and the reference pressure.

    • A fireplace adapted to heat multiple heating zones of a building, controlled by a control circuit which adjusts the heat input to the fireplace, airflow through the fireplace and ducting of the airflow to the various zones individually in response to a call for heat by thermostats in the zones. The fireplace may also be adapted to provide cooled or circulated air to the zones and may also serve to provide heating to the zones in the event of an electrical power outage. The fireplace is provided with a cabinet having ducts through which air is conveyed by use of a fan to a tube-type heat exchanger, the heat exchanger also in communication with the hot flue gases exiting the combustion chamber of the fireplace. The air heated by the heat exchanger is conveyed to a multitude of fireplace outlets, each of which is provided with a damper which regulates the airflow through the outlet to one of the zones to be heated, depending on whether that zone calls for heat through its thermostat. The fireplace is also provided with an evaporator core in an evaporator case, the core being part of an air conditioning system. Air flowing through the fireplace may bypass the cabinet ducts and tube-type heat exchanger, instead being directed to flow through the evaporator core, where it may be cooled, and then to the fireplace outlets for distribution to the zones.
