    • In an apparatus for cooling and generating electric energy, comprising a unit (16) for generating electrical energy and heat from a primary energy source, heat being delivered by heating a coolant (18) and as hot exhaust gases (20), and absorption cooling unit(s) (24) driven by heat from the generator unit and delivering coolant medium at a reduced temperature, the heat energy from the coolant and in the exhaust gases is used to operate the cooling unit(s). An apparatus for cooling and generating electric energy comprises a generator unit (16), in which electrical energy and heat are generated from a solid, liquid or gaseous primary energy source (A), heat being delivered by heating a generator unit coolant (18) and in the form of hot exhaust gases (20); and absorption cooling unit(s) (24), driven by heat produced in the generator unit and delivering a coolant medium at a cooled temperature (T6, T8). The novel feature is that the heat energy from the generator unit coolant and in the hot exhaust gases is used to operate the absorption cooling unit(s). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a corresponding process for cooling and generating electric energy; (2) an alternative apparatus for cooling and generating electric energy, comprising a generator unit (16), in which electrical energy and heat are generated from (A), and absorption cooling unit(s) (24), driven by heat produced in the generator unit, where the generator unit is a fuel cell (specifically a high temperature fuel cell operating at more than 120[deg]C); (3) an apparatus for carrying out industrial processing, comprising an energy source (16) for supplying electrical energy, a cooling plant (24) and a plant for carrying out the processing method using the supplied energy and under at least partial cooling by the cooling plant, the cooling output required increasing with increased electricity consumption, the novel feature being that the energy source is a generator unit (16) in which electrical energy and heat are generated from (A) and the cooling plant is an absorption cooling unit (24) driven by heat produced in the generator unit; and (4) a corresponding processing method.

    • The method for producing anisotropic carbon fibres from carbon-containing isotropic pitch comprises the following steps: a) an isotropic pitch of a size smaller than 0.1mm is released from unmeltable components at a temperature comprised between 150oC and 350oC, b) the pitch purified with a mononuclear organic solvent amount equal to 4-6 parts by weight of solvent for one part by weight of pitch filtrate is extracted at a temperature comprised between 70 and 90oC, c) the extraction residue is dried before its transformation into mesophase pitch, it is heat-treated during a period from 1 to 5 hours at a temperature comprised between 340oC and 410oC, and the mesophase pitch obtained is woven into fibres, d) the extraction residue is mixed before its heat treatment with 1-15% by weight of purified solvent extract by suction into a water jet. A mixture is obtained wherein the toluene soluble part is 20-40% by weight of the mixture.
