    • The present invention features nucleic acids and polypeptides encoding novel splice variant isoforms of purinergic receptor P2X, ligand-gated ion channel, subunits 3 and 4 (P2RX3, P2RX4). The polynucleotide sequences of P2RX3sv1 and P2RX3sv2 are provided by SEQ ID NO 6 and SEQ ID NO 8, respectively. The polynucleotide sequences of P2RX4sv1, P2RX4sv2, and P2RX4sv3 are provided by SEQ ID NO 10, SEQ ID NO 12, and SEQ ID NO 14, respectively. The amino acid sequences of P2RX3sv1 and P2RX3sv2 are provided by SEQ ID NO 7 and SEQ ID NO 9, respectively. The amino acid sequences of P2RX4sv1, P2RX4sv2, and P2RX4sv3 are provided by SEQ ID NO 11, SEQ ID NO 13, and SEQ ID NO 15, respectively. The present invention also provides methods for using P2RX3sv1, P2RX3sv2, P2RX4sv1, P2RX4sv2, and P2RX4sv3 polynucleotides and proteins to screen for compounds that bind to P2RX3sv1, P2RX3sv2, P2RX4sv1, P2RX4sv2, and P2RX4sv3, respectively.
