    • An amperage control for an electrically operated valve (24) having a coil. A process control apparatus (20) generates a plurality of electrical operating data signals, each signal corresponding to an operating parameter of the valve (24). A valve control apparatus (22) transmits voltage to the coil of the valve to control the operation of the valve (24), the valve control apparatus (22) receiving at least one operating data signal generated by the process control apparatus (20). A current flow is created in the coil of the valve (24) upon receiving voltage from the valve control apparatus (22). A current senses apparatus (26) senses the flow of current in the electrically controlled valve (24) and creates an electrical signal responsive to the current flow in the coil of the valve (24). When the signal created by the current sensing apparatus (26) is applied to the valve control apparatus (22), the valve control apparatus (22) modifies the operation of the valve responsive to the signal created by the current sensing apparatus (26).

    • A system used to interface between the drive stage of a unipolar spray dampening control system, and a bipolar valve (8). The system converts from an input whose duty cycle is governed by pulse width modulation, to one in which the pulse width is constant and the frequency varied. If the duty cycle conversion is not required, the system (8) can operate in follower mode which allows the converter outputs to follow the input frequency. Also disclosed is a method of controlling a magnetically actuated bistable valve (8). The method involves receiving a unipolar signal and converting the unipolar signal to a bistable signal. The bistable signal is then sent to a bistable valve (8) causing it to shift from its current state to an opposite state. A state is either a closed or open valve position. The state can be switched again by reversing the current.
