    • Computer implemented method, system and computer program product for controlling software entitlement. A computer implemented method for controlling software entitlement includes receiving a request to install a software item on a designated machine. A determination is made if the designated machine is of a machine type authorized for installation of the software item. If the designated machine is of a machine type authorized for installation of the software item, a determination is made, using stored configuration data, if at least one additional criterion specified for entitlement to install the software item on the designated machine is satisfied using stored configuration data. If the at least one additional criterion specified for entitlement to install the software item on the designated machine is satisfied, installation of the software item on the designated machine is enabled in accordance with the at least one additional criterion.

    • To provide an expansion unit that implements a WOL (Wake-On-LAN) security function at a low cost in a multi-user environment wherein one expansion unit is used in common by an unspecified number of notebook PCs. An expansion unit includes a LAN adapter having WOL function for connection to a LAN. Since power is constantly supplied to the LAN adapter by an auxiliary power source, the LAN adapter asserts a WOL signal in response to the receipt through the LAN of a wake-up packet. Since a WOL status register and a logic circuit are provided for the expansion unit, network security is ensured for the information processing system. The information processing system can issue an instruction to permit or to inhibit a WOL by writing a predetermined value in the WOL status register. Upon receipt of a WOL signal from the LAN adapter, the logic circuit refers to the WOL status register. When a wake-up is permitted, the logic circuit issues a power-on operation to a notebook PC, and when a wake-up is inhibited, the logic circuit ignores the WOL signal and inhibits the WOL function.

    • A vehicle-mounted engine control apparatus can accurately measure the resistance value of a label resistor arranged in an exhaust gas sensor for correcting characteristic variation thereof by using a reduced number of wires. An electric heater of the exhaust gas sensor, which is powered from a second power supply wire, as well as the label resistor and air fuel ratio measurement elements are connected to the apparatus which is powered from an on-vehicle battery through a first power supply wire. A power feed voltage of the apparatus is input to a multichannel AD converter through voltage dividing resistors, so that a positive end potential of the label resistor is measured alternatively. A negative end potential of the label resistor is input to the converter as a divided voltage thereof with a fixed resistor. The label resistance value is calculated from a fixed resistor current and a label resistor voltage.

    • A temperature control apparatus for an exhaust gas sensor can promptly heat the exhaust gas sensor with an electric heater up to an activation temperature while preventing thermal shock damage thereof due to water immediately after engine starting. Energization of an electric heater arranged near an exhaust gas sensor is controlled by a CPU cooperating with a ROM through a switching element. A low voltage is supplied for evaporation of the water by a first preheater immediately after engine starting, and enhanced preheating is subsequently carried out by a second preheater for preventing thermal shock on the exhaust gas sensor. Thereafter, a heating controller performs automatic control with a proper activation temperature of the exhaust gas sensor being made as a target. The temperature controlled by the first preheater is set to such a temperature level at which rapid cooling damage of the exhaust gas sensor due to the water will not be caused but the water can be evaporated.
