摘要： A machine tool apparatus and method for exterior and interior cutting operations on a workpiece is provided. In one form, the machine tool apparatus has a common support assembly with a tailstock and a boring tool holder mounted thereto. The common support assembly has a common support carriage that is mounted to a machine base for travel along a longitudinal axis parallel to a central axis of the workpiece. The tailstock and boring tool holder are mounted to a mounting base portion for travel transverse to the workpiece central axis. In one form, a turret having external cutting tools is separate from the boring tool holder and mounted to the machine base for performing external cutting operations on the workpiece. This separate mounting allows the turret to machine the exterior of the workpiece while also permitting a longer boring tool to perform deep internal cutting operations on the workpiece.

摘要： A combustor for a gas turbine includes a plurality of radially outer nozzles arranged in an annular array, each of the radially outer nozzles having an outlet end located to supply fuel and/or air to a first combustion chamber. A center nozzle has an outlet end located axially upstream of the outlet ends of the radially outer nozzles, and is configured and arranged to supply fuel and air to a second combustion chamber axially upstream of the first combustion chamber. The second combustion chamber opens into the first combustion chamber and has a length sufficient to maintain a center nozzle flame confined to the second combustion chamber.

摘要： A capsule device and a method for the capsule device remain in a very low power state and monitor whether it enters a desired section of the gastrointestinal track. The capsule device is coated with an enteric material that is expected to dissolve after it enters the small bowel. In the monitoring state, the capsule device captures a first image using the camera and the light source at a first frame rate substantially below a target frame rate. The capsule device compares first information related to the first image with second information related to a coating image corresponding to the coating. If the first information does not matches the second information, the capsule device declares that the coating has dissolved and the capsule device configures the camera to capture third images at the target rate after declaring that the coating has dissolved.

摘要： A water filtration apparatus has at least one tank in fluid communication with a conduit through at least one aperture in a wall. Each tank uses filter blocks to support the filter medium and to direct the filtered water to the conduit via the aperture. An end plate for the filter block is provided, the end plate being adapted to seal against a free end of the filter block. The end plate also provides apertures for fluid flow into and out of the filter block, and a device for receiving a sealant to provide a seal between the end plate and the wall. The end plate improves the installation of the apparatus, and the sealant improves the reliability of the seal round the apertures, which in turn improves the efficiency of a backwash operation used to clean the filter medium.

摘要： A method for generating combustion products within a gas turbine engine includes directing an internal air/fuel mixture towards a stagnation point in close proximity to an inner surface of a porous wall defining a combustion chamber. The internal air/fuel mixture is ignited to generate combustion products including a pilot flame. A quantity of air is externally mixed with a quantity of fuel to produce an external air/fuel mixture. The external air/fuel mixture is directed through the porous wall and into the combustion chamber such that the external air/fuel mixture is ignited by the pilot flame. A direction of flow of the combustion products is reversed at the stagnation point.

A method according to one aspect of the invention includes dispensing a slurry onto a substrate wherein the slurry includes a first plurality of elements, each of which is designed to mate with a receptor region on said substrate and each of which comprises a functional element, and wherein the slurry also includes a second plurality of elements which are not designed to mate with receptor regions on the substrate. Typically, these second plurality of elements help movement of the first plurality of elements. A method according to another aspect of the invention includes dispensing in a flow having a first direction a slurry onto a substrate, wherein the slurry includes a fluid and a plurality of elements, each of which is designed to mate with a receptor region on the substrate and each of which includes a functional element, and vibrating substrate in a second direction which is substantially perpendicular to the first direction. A method according to another aspect of the invention includes creating a slurry comprising of fluid and a plurality of elements, each of which is designed to mate with a receptor region on the substrate and each of which comprises a functional element, and projecting the slurry through a nozzle toward the substrate. In one particular implementation of this aspect, additional nozzles may be used to provide suction or additional fluid or additional slurry. A method according to another aspect of the invention includes dissolving a bonding agent into a solvent to create a fluid, dispensing a slurry onto a substrate, wherein the slurry includes the fluid and a plurality of elements each of which is designed to mate with a receptor region on the substrate and each of which comprises a functional element, and evaporating the solvent after each of the plurality of elements has mated with a corresponding receptor, wherein the bonding agent bonds each of the plurality of elements to the corresponding receptor region.

摘要： Methods for forming openings having predetermined shapes in a substrate and apparatuses with these openings. The methods may be used to form assemblies which include the substrate with its openings and elements which are disposed in the openings. In one example of a method, each of the elements include an electrical component and are assembled into one of the openings by a fluidic self assembly process. In an particular example of a method to create such an opening, the substrate is etched through a first patterned mask and is later etched through a second patterned mask. Typically, the second patterned mask is aligned relative to the opening created by etching through the first patterned mask and has an area of exposure which is smaller than an area of exposure through the first patterned mask. In another example of a method, a photosensitive material is exposed through a patterned mask to oblique sources of light such that some of the light impinges into a first portion of the photosensitive material which is under the patterned mask, and the patterned mask and a second portion of the photosensitive material, which is under the patterned mask, is removed. In another example of a method, an opening in a first layer, which comprises silicon dioxide, is formed by depositing a second layer over the first layer and depositing a tungsten layer over the second layer. The tungsten and second layers are patterned to expose a portion of the first layer, and this portion is etched. Various apparatuses which may be made using these methods are also described.
