    • A compact fluorescent tube comprises at least one U-shaped main tube part (11) and a base (12). Each main part has two straight tubular legs (14) of circular cross-section and a connecting tube (15) of rectangular cross-section. The connecting tube is joined to the cylindrical peripheral surface of respective tubular legs at regions adjacent the ends of the legs. The end surfaces (16) and one side (17) of the connecting tube form together a coherent flat end surface (18) on the U-shaped main part of the tube. A suitable method for manufacturing such a compact fluorescent tube comprises heating and bending straight glass tubes into U-shaped main tube parts, and blow moulding to form the connecting tube between the legs. Bending is effected around a first mould part which exhibits a channel-shaped abutment surface or accommodating the glass tube. A second, complementary mould part is provided for shaping the outer peripheral surface of the glass tube. The mould parts are caused to move relative to one another, such that the molten glass in the U-bend can collect in a dish-shaped part located in the second mould part. Finally, gas under pressure is introduced into the glass tube, so as to press the tube against the mould walls, such that the main tube parts are given their final shape.

    • The method entails passing impure gases from an incineration plant such as a destructor, process furnace, crematory furnace or heating boiler, through a burner in an afterburner where through enforced mixture with combustion gas they undergo complete combustion. The combustion gas, depending on the composition of the flue gases, may consist of air or oxygen or either mixed with liquid petroleum gas.
      In the device for implementation of the method the flue gases and the combustion gas are introduced into a burner (10,44) which blows the gas mixture into a flame bowl (3,52) where temperatures in the 1500 - 2000°C range can be achieved. In one version of the invention the burner (44) produces a conical basket-shaped flame in which the flue gases undergo complete combustion.

    • This procedure means that molybdenum core wire in tungsten filament coils for light sources can be dissolved chemically without releasing nitrous gases to the atmosphere. Since the solution reaction takes place under vacuum and with a metered supply of oxygen, while retaining the vacuum, the nitrous gases which have been formed can be converted in the process. The process acid also contains sulphuric acid and water. The reaction vessel can be cooled by means of tempering in the introductory stage of the dissolution reaction, since this stage is markedly exothermic. The reaction vessel can be heated in the final stage so that the dissolution of core wire becomes complete. … The device for implementing the procedure consists of a reaction vessel (1) with a tempering jacket (2) and fitted with an inlet and outlet (6) for process acid. An oxygen pipe (7) containing a metering valve (8) runs to the vessel (1). This valve is controlled by pressure-sensing devices (12, 13) on a liquid trap (10) fitted on a pipeline (9) running from the reaction vessel. The liquid trap can suitably contain an alkali solution. The pipeline (9) can be fitted with a cooler (11) for condensate acid vapour from the reaction vessel (1).
