[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XI and XVIII] Fluid pressure; fluid level.-In a thermostatically controlled liquid fuel burner apparatus, steam for atomizing the fuel is obtained from a steam generator 2 fitted with an electric heater comprising spaced electrode plates 15, 16 mounted on porcelain blocks 17, 13. Water is supplied to the steam generator through a coiled pipe 4 fitted with a manually adjusted valve 34 and a solenoid-operated valve 35. The generator is connected to the burner by a pipe 3 fitted with pressureoperated switches 27, 28, a solenoidoperated valve 29, and a manually adjusted valve 30. The fuel reservoir 5 is connected to the burner through a large conduit 40 and a reduced-section conduit 42 which is coiled around the generator 2 and is fitted with solenoid operated valves 44, 45 and a manually adjusted valve 46. The operation of the burner is controlled by a thermostat 78 responsive to the temperature of the medium heated by the burners. The electrical connections shown are for a single phase three conductor supply system. At starting all the solenoidoperated valves are closed, the pressureoperated switch 27 is closed and the pressureoperated switch 28 is open. When the control switch 60 is closed the solenoid-operated valve 35 opens to admit water to the steam generator 2. On the water level reaching the upper plate 15 the heating circuit for the water is completed through the water and a relay 65 which breaks the circuit to the valve 35, allowing it to close. Steam is then generated and when its pressure reaches a predetermined level, say 8 lbs. per square inch, the switch 28 closes. If now the thermostat is calling for heat a circuit is completed to open the steam valve 29 and fuel valves 44, 45 and also to supply current to the primary coil of an ignition transformer 75. If the pressure in the generator exceeds a predetermined level, say 11 lb. per square inch, the switch 27 opens thereby breaking the heating circuit until the pressure has fallen to a lower limit, say 8 lb. per square inch. Where the water level falls below the upper plate 15 the relay 65 becomes de-energized and the valve 35 is opened to admit more water to the generator. When the medium being heated reaches the desired temperature the thermostat 78 opens or, if the steam pressure diminishes below 3 lb. per square inch, the switch 28 opens, thereby closing the valves 29, 44, 45. In another apparatus the steam generator is fitted with an electrical immersion heater and the water is admitted to the generator through two float operated valves arranged in series.

The invention also provides a method of controlling the growth of phytopathogenic fungi at a locus by applying synergistically effective amounts of at least one azolopyrimidine of formula I and at least one fungicidal active ingredient (b) to the locus.
