    • There is described a portable counting device arranged to be worn by a user. The counting device comprises: a counter for recording a count and a movement sensor arranged to sense discrete movement events of the user. The counting device is arranged to be coupled to a computer game console so as to enable two-way communication between the game console and the counting device. The counting device has a first mode of operation when decoupled from the game console in which the counting device is operable to increment the count by a first increment value for each sensed discrete movement event. The counting device has a second mode of operation when coupled to the game console in which the counting device is operable to decrement the count. There is also described a gaming system comprising: a portable counting device arranged to be worn by a user and a computer game console. The counting device has a counter for recording a count and a movement sensor arranged to sense discrete movement events of the user. The counting device and the game console are arranged to be coupled so as to enable two-way communication therebetween. At least one of the counting device and the game console is operable to decrement the count when the counting device and the game console are coupled to one another.

    • There is described a system for a user to control the movement of an object in a video game, comprising: a direction sensor arranged to sense a directional input by the user; a movement sensor arranged to sense gross movement of the user; and a processor arranged to combine the sensed directional input and the sensed movement to provide an output signal for controlling the movement of the game object, the output signal being provided such that a direction of movement of the game object varies in dependence upon the sensed directional input and a magnitude of movement of the game object varies in dependence upon the sensed movement . A method for a user to control the movement of an object in a video game is also described.

    • Method and apparatus for location-based triggering in a mobile receiver is described. In one example, a triggering region is designated. Expected pseudorange data is generated within the mobile receiver and pseudoranges to a plurality of satellites are measured. A delta position is computed with respect to a virtual center of the triggering region using satellite trajectory data, the measured pseudoranges, and the expected pseudoranges. The delta position is compared with the radius restriction value, the results of which may be used to trigger an event. In another example, expected pseudorange data is obtained at the mobile receiver. Pseudoranges from the mobile receiver to a plurality of satellites are measured. The measured pseudoranges and expected pseudoranges are compared using a metric to produce delta values. The delta values are compared with a radius restriction value, the results of which may be used to trigger an event.
