    • The present invention relates to methods for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, including, but not limited to, atherosclerosis, reperfusion injury, hypertension, restenosis, arterial inflammation, thrombosis and endothelial cell disorders. Specifically, the present invention identifies the differential expression of 1419, 58765 or 2210 genes in cardiovascular disease states, relative to their expression in normal, or non­cardiovascular disease states, and/or in response to manipulations relevant to cardiovascular disease. The present invention describes methods for the diagnostic evaluation and prognosis of various cardiovascular diseases, and for the identification of subjects exhibiting a predisposition to such conditions. The invention also provides methods for identifying a compound capable of modulating cardiovascular disease. The present invention also provide methods for the identification and therapeutic use of compounds as treatments of cardiovascular disease.

    • The invention provides isolated nucleic acids molecules, designated 25934 nucleic acid molecules, which encode a novel desaturase family member. The invention also provides antisense nucleic acid molecules, recombinant expression vectors containing 25934 nucleic acid molecules, host cells into which the expression vectors have been introduced, and nonhuman transgenic animals in which a 25934 gene has been introduced or disrupted. The invention still further provides isolated 25934 proteins, fusion proteins, antigenic peptides and anti-25934 antibodies. Diagnostic methods utilizing compositions of the invention are also provided. The invention also provides methods for modulating fatty acid metabolism utilizing the compositions of the invention. Accordingly, methods of treating, preventing and/or diagnosing cardiovascular disorders, such atherosclerosis, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, and hyperlipidemia, are disclosed.
