    • This invention provides a system that allows a mobile robot platform to keep fixed distance from a fixed or moving system that controls the dynamics of the robot platform, hereafter named target, such as a person, so that the mobile robot platform switches behavior between moving away from the target and moving towards the target. The mobile robot platform continuously measures the distance between itself and a target such as a person, via ultra-wide band (UWB) ranging system, and moves to and from the target based on the measurement. The invention provided herein, without limiting its generality, can be readily applied to create systems such as hands-free pushing trolley, hands free autonomous cooler, hands free lawn mower and hands-free wheelbarrow.
