    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accept variation in brightness on an illumination surface caused by the change in light source arrangement pitches of a direct illumination device, to keep the brightness of the direct illumination device as high as possible as a whole, and to make the brightness uniform without making the variation in the brightness stand out.
      SOLUTION: Light source reflection surfaces 4 are arranged in a series to form a reflector 3 where each of the surfaces 4 is in a simple common basic shape having a horizontal reflection surface 5 and two inclined reflection surfaces 6, the width of the surface 5 is expanded in response to the arrangement pitch of light sources 8, and the two surfaces 6 stand on the both side of the surface 5 with the same rising angle of 45°. Reflection light supply areas c, each of which the respective two surfaces 6 supply to an illumination surface 2, are arranged in a series so that adjacent reflection light supply areas c cross each other right over the light source 8 in the central part in the widthwise direction of the surface 2, and separate from each other in the end in the widthwise direction. This makes use of a direct light inhibiting function by crossing the reflection lights and a direct light disappearing function by separating the reflection lights, to obtain means for accepting the variation in brightness and adjusting the making of the uniformity in brightness.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the luminance of a vertically downward aiming liquid crystal direct backlight to be partially brighter at the center part while securing uniformity of the whole, so that the center part of the color television may be illuminated brighter than the other parts.
      SOLUTION: The pitch of arrangement of the light sources 9 is varied finely so that the pitch is shortened in the center part and widened at the end parts, and the light source reflecting surface 4 of the reflecting plate 3 is made a cross-sectionally curved U shape in which a first to a third reflecting surfaces 5-7 are arranged in bilateral symmetry, and the level of the first reflecting surface and the angle and peak position of the third reflecting surface 7 are made common for each light source reflecting surface 4, and the angle and width of the second reflecting surface 6 are varied finely so that they become smaller at the center part and larger at the end part, thereby the supply range b of the reflecting light is structured to move so as to be rotatingly displaced on the center part side. As a result, a thin type and desirable illumination can be obtained simply and positively.
