Classes 100(2) and 100(3) [Also in Group XX] A device for simplifying the preparation of legal and other documents comprises a number of rigid strips e.g. in the form of cards, slides, stencils, each of which has inscribed thereon by writing, typing, printing &c. a standard clause or clauses, and a holder in which the strips containing the required clauses can be assembled to form the required document, the strips being insertable in and removal from the holder at one end only thereof, and secured therein when assembled. In one construction, Fig. 1, simple strips 21 transparent or opaque and of plastic material are slid into a frame 20 through a slot in the bottom member of the frame and secured therein by a rod 22 and nuts 23. Various securing means are described including pins or bolts passing from back to front through the frame, or hinged bolts. Slots may be provided in the sides of the strips to receive tabs to indicate, for example, the numbers of the clauses, or the frame may have a separate marginal part 20a, Fig. 10, holding a sheet 26 for this purpose. In this construction, the frame has a solid back, and a sponge rubber strip 24 or a leaf spring is provided at the top against which the first strip impinges. A bar 27 sliding in slots 20b, 20c retains the strips. The marginal part may be formed separately and attached to the main frame. The frame may be constructed so as to hold a set of strips on both of its faces, and the strips may be formed as pockets, Fig. 11 (not shown), into which cards with the clauses thereon can be inserted. Each pocket may be divided so as to have a marginal portion. The strips may have interengaging means at their upper and lower edges. In one form, Fig. 13, (not shown), these means are constituted by a tongue on one edge and a groove on the other. A similar construction is employed for mounting the strips in the frame. Another form of tongue and groove interconnection 21d, 21e is shown in Fig. 16. In this construction each strip which is of pocket form has projections 21f at the ends engaging grooves 20f in the frame. The projections 21f may extend from both faces of the strip, the grooves 20f being suitably modified. The holder may consist of a single member with a stop at one end and locking means at the other. The strips may be blank with surfaces upon which the clauses can be written. Those containing clauses of similar type may have the same colour, the colour being varied for different types of clauses.

    • Fluorocarbons and/or fluorochlorocarbons are made by reacting on carbon jointly with fluorine and chlorine at above 350 DEG C. Amongst the products of reaction there are specified tetrafluorochloroethane and tetrafluorodichloroethane together with compounds such as hydrogen fluoride, carbon dioxide and silicon tetrafluoride. The reactive gases may be derived from a mixture of these gases or a compound thereof, e.g. chlorine mono- or tri-fluoride, or from mixtures of such compounds with themselves or with chlorine or fluorine. The carbon may be in the form of graphite or wood charcoal. Reactor temperatures of 500-550 DEG C. are given and the gases may be preheated. Ratios of fluorine to chlorine may be widely varied, e.g. 1 : 3 to 3 : 1 ratios are quoted, and where large proportions of chlorine are used only small amounts of tetrafluoromethane are obtained. The reactor should be made of material such as recrystalline alumina or a metal such as nickel which is resistant to reactants and products. The gases may be passed through a bed of carbon or a fluidized technique may be used. In examples: (1) fluorine and chlorine in mol. ratio of 0.9 : 1 are passed through Acheson graphite at 500 DEG C. in a stream of nitrogen products being collected in a catch-pot at 5-10 DEG C. and then in traps immersed in liquid air, the pot providing a brown resinous material, possibly a polynuclear aromatic fluorocarbon, and the traps yielding on fractionation after scrubbing with caustic soda solution the above specified compounds, mainly trifluorochloromethane and tetrafluorodichloroethane, and some heptafluorochloropropane; (2) fluorine and chlorine in a mol. ratio of 1.8 : 1 are passed through wood charcoal at 500 DEG C. in a stream of nitrogen and products isolated as in (1) save that HF is removed before the traps by NaF treatment, trifluorochloromethane and tetrafluoromethane are the chief products, and in (3) chlorine trifluoride diluted in a ratio of 1 : 3 with nitrogen is passed through artificial graphite at 500 DEG C. and products are isolated as before excess chlorine trifluoride and its derivatives being removed by scrubbing with sodium hydroxide and sulphite, the main products being trifluorochloromethane and carbon tetrafluoride.

    • A lid assembly for a portable water treatment device of the type including a vessel with an opened upper end and a replaceable filter cartridge adapted to be contained therein. A lid assembly is adapted to be attached to the opened upper end of the vessel above the replaceable filter cartridge and operable to monitor the number of times the water treatment device is used. The lid assembly includes a housing having a central aperture therethrough communicating with the filter cartridge. A gate member is reciprocally movable between a position closing the aperture in the housing and a position opening the aperture in the housing. In the opened position, water to be treated may be poured into the filter cartridge through the aperture. Indicator means are provided and are movable incrementally in response to movement of the gate member. The indicator means move one increment during a cyclic movement of the gate member from the closed position to the opened position and back to the closed position. Movement of the indicator is limited to a predetermined number of increments, the indicator preventing further movement of the gate member upon reaching a predetermined number of increments.

    • The Extended Life System to Protect a Home/Structure from Burning in a Wildfire/Forest Fire consists of a 1700+ gallon water tank (1), a standby generator (2) operating off a fuel supply of natural gas (17) or propane (17) a power transfer (3), a self priming water pump (4), a pressure booster (at least one, more if needed) (5), water lines (6), fixed, directional sprayer heads (7), temperature/smoke sensors (hereafter referred to as sensors) (8), a manual on/off switch (9), and an automatic on switch (10) The system will be a permanent fixture which will allow for the safety of a home/structure (hereafter referred to as structure) at all times, even if the owner of said structure is not available to turn the system on. The system will utilize the existing water supply (12) of any particular structure to keep the water tank full before and during use. It will also use the existing water supply, routed through a solenoid operated valve (20) to protect the landscape (15), and the walls (19) of the structure, if necessary. The water tank will also be kept as full as possible by the use of rain gutters (11) which will return the used water to the water tank. In the case of the stoppage of the existing water supply, this will add many hours to the operation of the unit. If there is an immanent danger of fire, and the owner of the structure is available, they will be able to turn the system on, and evacuate to safety. If the owner is NOT available, the sensors will turn on the system via the automatic switch when the fire gets close enough to trigger the sensors. If there is any loss of existing power (13) at the main service panel (16) the power transfer will automatically transfer power to the system from the generator, which will also start automatically in the event there is a power loss. Once the system is turned on, the water pump pumps the water to the pressure booster. The pressure booster is used to ensure proper pressure is maintained in order to assure proper coverage of the water. The water will cover the roof (14), enter the rain gutter, and return to the water tank.
