    • An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording medium includes a first photoconductor on which a first intermediate image of a first color is formed; a second photoconductor on which a second intermediate image of a second color is formed, the second color being different from the first color; first and second light sources configured to emit light to the first and second photoconductors, respectively; a light source control unit configured to control the first light source to emit light according to a light emission control signal; a conveyance control signal generation unit configured to generate a conveyance control signal based on the light emitted from the first light source according to the light emission control signal; and a conveyance unit configured to convey the recording medium based on the conveyance control signal, upon transferring the second intermediate image onto the recording medium.

    • An image forming apparatus includes: an image forming unit that forms a pattern image for image quality adjustment on an image carrier; a detection unit that detects the pattern image for the image quality adjustment; an image quality adjustment control unit that controls an image quality adjustment process in accordance with a result of detection of the detection unit; a reception unit that receives a color mode selected from among a plurality of kinds of color modes; and a calculation unit that calculates a total pattern length so that a total length of the pattern image for the image quality adjustment in a sub-scanning direction is equal in any of the color modes, wherein the image forming unit forms the pattern image for the image quality adjustment so that the total length of the pattern image for the image quality adjustment is equal to the calculated total pattern length.

    • An image forming apparatus includes a light emission source, a polygon mirror, a plurality of image carrying members, an optical detection mechanism, and an instruction mechanism. The light emission source outputs a plurality of optical beams in accordance with image data. The polygon mirror receives the optical beams at different mirror points, and deflects the beams into a first plurality of scanning optical beams in given directions to scan on predetermined scanning lines in a main scanning direction. The plurality of image carrying members rotating in a sub-scanning direction receive the first plurality of scanning optical beams to form primary separate color images. The optical detection mechanism detects a second plurality of scanning optical beams included in the first plurality of scanning optical beams. The instruction mechanism instructs the light emission source to light on and off at timings based on a plurality of detection signals from the optical detection mechanism.
