Lasting; cementing; soles.-Relates to an apparatus for wiping an upper over a last, and securing its edge to the insole. A framework A , Fig. 1, supports a removable die or matrix B, which is lined with two sheets of india-rubber, a sole portion B', Fig. 7, extending right across the frame, and a heel portion B , which is provided with an opening b to receive the ankle portion of the last. The frame also carries resilient material at the part b , to bear upon the waist portion of the last. The latter is positioned by a jack pin g, and is provided with a hook c, which is engaged by a treadle-rod c . When the treadle is depressed, the last is forced into the die B, and the linings B', B exercise a wiping action on the upper and draw it well over the last. The edges of the upper are then cemented and pressed down to the insole, for which purpose the apparatus is provided with wiper blades F, Fig. 4, pivoted together at f and to the frame A at f . The blades are arranged slightly below the plane of the insole, and have to be sprung upwards before they can be moved inwards. They may be formed with downward flanges f for acting on the edge of the upper adjacent to the heel. The edges of the upper may be turned inwards instead of outwards. If an outer sole is to be applied, it is placed in a recess in a presser bar H, which is then forced downwards on to the prepared insole. In some cases, the sheets B', B may consist of pneumatic cushions.

    • A wireless communications apparatus that it is useable as a spectrum analyzer and as a wireless receiver. The wireless communications apparatus has a radio circuit that is configured to receive EM radiation. Signal processing logic receives signals from the radio circuit based on the EM radiation. The signal processing logic has a receiver operational mode that processes the signals in accordance with a communication protocol and outputs data encoded in the signals to a host processor. The signal processing logic has a spectrum analyzer operational mode that generates frequency domain data and passes the frequency domain data to the host processor. The frequency domain data describe strength versus frequency of the EM radiation. The host processes the data in accordance with the configuration currently in use. Therefore, the wireless communications apparatus operates as a receiver in one operational mode and as a real-time spectrum analyzer in another operational mode.

    • A multiple access wireless communications architecture provides selective, simultaneous communications with wireless devices located in different sections of a spatial area around a communications apparatus referred to as “sectors”. This includes communications between wireless devices in a single sector, between wireless devices in different sectors and between wireless devices and a wired network or wireless backhaul network. The wireless communications architecture generally includes two or more wireless antenna arrangements that are each configured to provide communications with wireless devices located in a particular sector. Each wireless antenna arrangement is further configured to determine whether signals are being communicated on a communications channel before transmitting on the communications channel. This may be implemented, for example, using a carrier sense or energy detection mechanism. Wireless devices within a sector may communicate on the same or different communications channels, depending upon the particular multiple access protocol employed.
