    • Embodiments of an insert are shown and described, each insert being for use with recreational boards, such as snow boards, to attach bindings or other equipment onto the board. Each insert is imbedded into the board, by being inserted and cemented into a two-diameter hole drilled in the board from the bottom. Each insert includes a generally cylindrical shaft extending up through the narrow portion of the hole to the top surface of the board, for receiving screws or bolts into the threaded interior space of the insert. Each insert embodiment includes a non-round base having an outer perimeter edge that is not a circle in shape. The preferable hexagonal base and the preferably U-shaped channels on the exterior surface of the shaft prevent the insert from breaking loose from the cement and rotating.

    • A fixture for positioning an abrasive tool above a running surface of a snowboard for beveling a snowboard edge including a head having one or more feet, each foot including an indexing portion for indexing the fixture against a marginal side of the snowboard. An arm is connected to and projects from the head and a carrier is connected to the arm at a predetermined distance from the indexing portion of the foot. The carrier includes a tool shim. When the fixture is in use, the tool shim bottom face may be held in sliding contact with in a plane substantially parallel to the running surface of the snowboard at a predetermined and fixed distance from the marginal side of the snowboard. A finishing tool, such as a file, is held at a predetermined working angle relative to the running surface of the snowboard by spanning the file between the upper face of the tool shim and the edge of the snowboard. The working angle of the bevel may be varied by advancing the arm through the carrier.

    • Embodiments of a ski sharpening guide are shown and described, each embodiment including an angular member having a side surface for placement against a ski and a top surface for holding a file. Preferably, a channel runs along the junction between the side surface and the top surface along the entire length of the angular member, for collection of filings. Preferably, the top surface includes a filing-receiving recess having platforms that rise from the recess to have platform top surfaces that are co-planar with the angular member top surface. The platforms provide additional support for the file with minimal reduction of recess volume and efficiency of filings removal. The ski sharpening guide preferably includes a clamp for securing the file in position relative to the guide and the ski edge.

    • Embodiments of a composite insert are shown and described, each embodiment being for attachment of bindings or other equipment onto a recreational board, such as a snowboard. Each insert is imbedded into the board in a counter-sunk hole drilled in the board. Each composite insert includes an internally-threaded core for receiving a binding bolt, and a sleeve that is secured to the core and that has a preferably non-circular base edge for anchoring the insert in the resin/cement in the snowboard hole. The core of the composite insert is preferably made of metal to supply a durable and reusable threaded bore for receiving the binding bolt. The sleeve is preferably made of plastic that is injection-molded around at least a flange or other projection from the core surface to secure the sleeve to the core. By making the core from a small-diameter piece of metal and the larger-diameter sleeve from a plastic such as glass-filled nylon, the resulting insert is more economical than the prior inserts, which require turning and machining of larger-diameter metal rods. The composite insert is preferably installed with a cap blocking the core opening to keep the core interior space clean until the cap is drilled out.

    • Embodiments of a ski sharpening guide are shown and described, each embodiment including an angular member having a side surface for placement against a ski and a top surface for holding a file. At the junction between the side surface and the top surface is a channel that preferably runs the entire length of the angular member for collection of filings. Preferably, the top surface includes a filing-receiving recess having angled walls to create a wide inlet at the channel and a narrower outlet at the top surface rear edge. The combination of long channel and angled, wide-mouthed recess form an efficient filing-removal system which prevents filings from interfering with the sharpening of the ski edge. The ski sharpening guide preferably includes a clamp for securing the file in position relative to the guide and the ski edge. The clamp is designed with a base side wall against which the file may be pushed to aid in positioning and securing the file and preventing the file from being pushed off of the guide.
