    • A capacitance-type encoder comprising a stator, a movable element, an excitation device and a signal processing device to obtain position data with low power-consumption. The stator has excitation-electrode sets electrically independent and displaced to have phase differences from each other to form a predetermined number of excitation-electrode groups. The movable element has connection electrodes having the same number as the excitation-electrode groups. The excitation device simultaneously applies a first pair of positive and negative pulse voltages respectively to two of the excitation-electrode sets having a phase difference of 180 degrees, and then simultaneously applies a second set of positive and negative pulse voltages respectively to the rest of the excitation-electrode sets. The signal processing device determines which one of four divided regions the movable element is positioned in based on a combination of detection signals when the first and second pairs of pulse voltages are applied respectively.

    • A film-like electrode member, used as a stationary member or a movable member of an electrostatic motor. The film-like electrode member is provided with an insulating substrate including a major surface and a back surface opposite to the major surface; a plurality of electrodes arranged along the major surface of the insulating substrate at predetermined intervals; a main section including at least a part of the plural electrodes and of the insulating substrate carrying the electrodes; a locally thick section integrally joined to the main section and having a thickness larger than the main section; and a conducting element formed on the thick section and connected to the plurality of electrodes. The thick section includes a protrusion element having insulating properties and locally protruding from the major surface of the insulating substrate; and the conducting element is formed continuously on the insulating substrate and the protrusion element. The major surface of the insulating substrate of a first film-like electrode member is disposed to be opposed to the back surface of the insulating substrate of a second film-like electrode member, and the thick section of the first film-like electrode member and the thick section of the second film-like electrode member is brought into abutment with each other.

    • Projections (16, 18) formed on shafts (10, 12) and received in grooves (20a, 20b) of an intermediate disk (14) to form an Oldham coupling, in general, perform a small sliding movement relative to the intermediate disk (14), and thus the projections (16, 18) and the side surfaces of the grooves (20a, 20b) are abraded to cause backlash to appear between the corresponding surfaces. This backlash makes an accurate transmission of the rotation of one shaft to the other impossible. According to the present invention, at least the bottom walls (22a, 22b) of the grooves (20a, 20b) of the intermediate disk (14) are formed of an elastic material, and each of the grooves (20a, 20b) is formed in a width smaller than that of the corresponding projection (16, 18) so that the projections (16, 18) are held elastically between the side surfaces (24a, 24b) of the corresponding grooves (20a, 20b ), and thus no backlash occurs between the corresponding surfaces of the projections (16, 18) and the grooves (20a, 20b), even if those surfaces are abraded to some extent.

    • A parallel-link operational device in which links of a link mechanism connecting rotary actuators and a movable member do not protrude outside an area of a base. Six flat rotary actuators driven to control position and posture of the movable member are provided on the base, rotary output shafts of which are disposed radially pointing toward the center of the base. The links fixedly mounted on the rotary output shafts of the actuators are connected by joints to one end of rods, and the other end of the rods are connected to the movable member by joints. An end effector mounted on the movable member is rotated by an actuator for posture control mounted on the base via a rotational-force transmission mechanism composed of joints, spline couplings, etc. The links rotate in planes parallel to the sides of the base without protruding beyond the area covered by the base.
