      CONSTITUTION: A non-conductive material 2 such as synthetic resin paint, a synthetic resin adhesive agent or the like is stuck like a pattern by a painting, printing or spraying method on the surface 4 of a metal 1, such as stainless steel or alumited Al, which is passivated and which itself has decorative aesthetic appearance. Cu plating 3a as underlying palting is applied on the exposed metallic surface 4 which is not stuck with the material 2, and an Ni plating layer 3b is applied thereon. A metallic plating layer 3c for decorative purposes such as Au, Ag or the like is finally formed thereon; thereafter, the material layer 2 is removed with trichloroethylene.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing silica sol having a high hardness and providing a hard film having excellent adhesiveness to the surface of a base material; and to provide a method for forming the hard film by which the hard film can be formed on the surface of the base material by using the silica sol produced by the method.
      SOLUTION: The method for producing the silica sol involves hydrolyzing a silicone compound represented by the general formula: R

The method for forming the hard film comprises coating the silica sol produced by the production method on the surface of the base material, and subjecting the silica sol coated on the surface of the base material to curing treatment.
