    • An electric air control switching valve for use in controlling the delivery of secondary air from an engine driven air pump selectively, as a function of both engine operation and the operation of its associated emission control system, to either the exhaust manifold of an engine, preferably at a location closely adjacent to the exhaust ports of the engine, during low temperature engine operation, to the atmosphere, as at the dirty side of the air cleaner associated with the induction system of the engine, during low temperature engine deceleration, to a converter in the exhaust system for the engine downstream of the exhaust manifold during normal engine operation, or again to the atmosphere, as at the dirty side of the air cleaner, when the converter temperature exceeds a predetermined temperature.

    • An air management valve in the exhaust emission control system for the engine of an automotive vehicle is operative to selectively control secondary air flow to the exhaust manifold next adjacent to the exhaust ports of the engine, to the center of a dual bed catalytic converter and to the atmosphere. The air management valve, adapted to be connected to an engine driven air pump, includes three air pressure operated valves, that is, a port air control valve controlling air flow to the exhaust ports, a proportional air control valve controlling divert air flow to the atmosphere and a pressure relief valve for the pressure relief divert air flow to the atmosphere, a flow control orifice controlling air flow to the converter, a port air control and a solenoid valve arranged to control pressure on one side of the port air control valve, a proportion air control solenoid valve arranged so as to control the flow of exhaust gases to one side of the proportional air control valve whereby to effect operation of this valve as a proportional regulator so as to maintain a constant pressure ratio between air pump pressure and exhaust pressure at the center of the converter.

    • An air switching diverter valve assembly for use with an internal combustion engine to control the flow of secondary air from an air pump, the air switching diverter valve assembly including a housing having a valve chamber therein with an inlet from the air pump to the valve chamber, a first outlet to supply air to the engine exhaust manifold, a second outlet to supply air either to the converter or to the atmosphere, depending on the intended use of the valve in an engine system, and a pressure valve controlled third outlet, a valve movably positioned in the valve chamber for control of flow out through either the first outlet or the second outlet, a switching diaphragm assembly being operatively connected to the valve for actuation thereof and positioned in the housing to form therewith first and second chambers on opposite sides of the switching diaphragm, the second chamber being connected to receive an engine manifold vacuum signal and, a divert timing assembly positioned in the second chamber and attached to one side of the switching diaphragm whereby vacuum leakage from this air switching diverter valve assembly is reduced to a minimum.
