    • An automatic door operator with a motor connectable to a door through gear units and linkages and for moving the door between an open and a closed position. An absolute position transducer measures the absolute position of the door independently of previous positions of the door and substantially continuously. A control senses an external signal indicating one of a desired open state and closed state of the door. The control compares the absolute position of the door with the external signal and generates the drive signal to drive the motor to cause the absolute position to be substantially identical to the external signal. The motor is a regenerative drive operatable in all directional combinations of electrical driving torque and motor rotation. The control electrically drives the regenerative drive in a direction opposite a rotation of the regenerative drive to brake a load applied to the motor. The control also limits the current to the motor, to limit the force the motor applies to the door. The combination of current limiting and the regenerative drive allows the door to be externally forced opposite to motor force without substantially damaging the door operator.

    • A locking surgical tool handle system. The invention includes a surgical tool handle that has an elongated body portion with a pistol-type grip. The front end of the handle body has a tool retaining structure comprising a contoured engagement face and a moveable tension bar with an engagement end. Projections on the engagement end of the tension bar fit within a receiving channel of a surgical tool, such as a broach or rasp. A locking mechanism is provided within the handle body, and is implemented with pivotable links attached to the tension bar. The locking mechanism has an unlocked position in which the engagement end of the tension bar is spaced away from the engagement face of the handle body, and an over-center locked position in which the engagement end of the tension bar is retracted toward the handle body. When the tool handle is placed in its locked position, the engagement end of the tension bar pulls an attached tool into tight contact with the engagement face of the handle body.

    • A needle-shielding fluid transfer device for safely transferring fluid from a needle-bearing medical device to a separate container. The device includes a housing having a passage therethrough. At one end section of the housing, the passage has a relatively large diameter and the housing is adapted to easily accept and hold the needle-bearing medical device from which fluid is to be transferred. At a second end section, the housing is adapted to accept the container into which fluid is to be transferred. When a needle-bearing medical device is inserted into the passage at the first end section of the passage and a container is inserted into the second end section of the housing the needle of the needle-bearing medical device enters the container and fluid may be transferred. In one embodiment, the housing is split into two housing components to form a clamshell-like structure.

    • An intraosseous needle having a threaded shaft with a passageway extending substantially therethrough, a solid and pointed tip at one end thereof, the tip having a plurality of cutting edges which facilitate boring through a bone. The shaft also includes two side ports in communication with the passageway to allow fluids to pass through the needle into the interior of the Done after successful insertion thereof.
