The brake lever C of an eitherside wagon brake is pivoted at A, and is adjustably connected to the channel plate N, which is jointed to the crank L mounted on the short shaft k which carries the double-armed lever l, m to which the push-rods n, o are jointed. The brake is applied by depressing the elbow lever D having a roller J bearing on the free end of the lever C and also a stirrup E which, when in the position shown, allows the levers C, D to turn as one. A second hand-lever similar to the lever D is fitted at the other end of the cross-shaft.

摘要： 10,111. Gillespie, R. A. May 4. Clip and sleeve joints; cotcplings, attaching pipes to.-Relates to couplings for uniting pipes with plain ends in gas, water, or other mains. The sleeve 3 is fitted over the pipe ends, and is provided with stuffing-boxes at each end in which the rubber packing-rings 5 are compressed by the glands 4. The bottom of the stuffing-boxes . is formed with a double bevel 6, 7, the packing-ring being formed similarly, so that the ridge 8 is formed for holding the packing-ring. The gland 4 is provided with recesses into which the dogs 17 are fitted, and projections on the dogs are forced into the pipes by means of the transverse wedges 20 ; longitudinal stresses on the coupling force the dogs further into the pipe. The glands are first brought into position by temporary bolts 22 and the wedges are then inserted. A modification is described in which the dogs are dispensed with and the gland is serrated for engaging the wedges, and in another modification, the sleeve is not provided with a stuffing-box, but the packing-rings are forced against the ends of the sleeve by means of rings at each end connected together by bolts.

摘要： A compact catalytic reactor defines a multiplicity of first and second flow channels arranged alternately, the first flow channels being no more than 10 mm deep and providing flow paths for combustible reactants, and containing a catalyst structure (20) to catalyse combustion of the reactants, and having at least one inlet for at least one of the reactants. The fist flow channel also includes an insert (40 or 60) adjacent to each inlet, this insert not being catalytic to the combustion reaction: the insert may define gaps which are narrower than the maximum gap size for preventing flame propagation. This reactor is applicable in a steam methane reforming plant.
