    • An airbag (1) for a vehicle safety restraint and particularly a method of folding an airbag comprising laying the airbag (1) generally flat, making folds in the flat airbag to form a polygon (such as a square) in plan view, folding all of the sides of the polygon upwardly and inwardly of the polygon considered in plan view so that at least one point on each side meets a point on at least one other side at a position generally above the centre of the polygon so that the corners of the polygon form upstanding ears (7), and subsequently rolling (E) the upstanding corner ears of the polygon to form the airbag into a cylindrical shape. An airbag folded in this way is very compact and will fit into a housing of smaller diameter than was hitherto possible. The invention applies particularly to a driver's side airbag.

    • A monitoring system for a fluid flow connector (1, 2) such as for oil or gas production flow is able to maintain the integrity of the seal at a junction between fluid conduits (33) and generate a warning signal or activate a secondary seal (43) in the event of main seal (42) failure. The monitoring system of the invention is used with a hydraulic seal to which barrier fluid is supplied under pressure. The pressure of the barrier fluid is sensed at the seal and compared to the applied pressure. A drop in pressure indicates a leaking seal and a warning signal may be generated and/or a secondary seal brought into operation. The system is particularly useful when a plurality of junctions of conduits are present in a connector. Independent supplies of barrier fluid to the seals at each junction are provided so that identification of a leaking seal is accurate and timely.

    • A vehicle safety arrangement comprising a seat back support (4a) adapted to be attached to the back of a vehicle seat (50) and a side impact protective air bag module comprising an inflator (1) and a folded inflatable air bag (8). The seat back support (4a) is formed with integrally moulded or extruded flanges forming a housing for the inflator (1) and the air bag (8), and with a gas channel (16) linking the inflator (1) with the air bag (8). The arrangement can be placed outside the seat structure and will not conflict with occupant comfort. Furthermore since it is independent of the seat structure it can be manufactured separately. The arrangement also comprises fewer component parts with attendant cost and weight savings and making it easier to manufacture. The seat back support (4a) is a plastic module which can be snapped or bolted onto the back of a front seat (50) and is generally used to prevent injury to rear passengers such as from submarining. The present invention provides a seat back support (4a) integrated air bag (8) arrangement with either a plastics extruded or a plastics moulded housing design and provides a side impact system that is compact in design and lightweight, easy to assemble and inexpensive.

    • A memory device that uses error correction code (ECC) circuitry to improve the reliability of the memory device in view of single-bit errors caused by hard failure or soft error. A write buffer is used to post write data, so that ECC generation and memory write array operation can be carried out in parallel. As a result there is no penalty in write latency or memory cycle time due to ECC generation. A write-back buffer is used to post corrected ECC words during read operations, so that write-back of corrected ECC words does not need to take place during the same cycle that data is read. Instead, write-back operations are performed during idle cycles when no external memory access is requested, such that the write back operation does not impose a penalty on memory cycle time or affect memory access latency.
