    • 875,585. Valves. WEBSTER, E. M. Nov. 28, 1957, No. 37201/57. Class 135. A multiple-way valve comprises a housing 12, 13 having an inlet port 15 and a plurality of outlet ports 18, a diaphragm 26 of flexible material located within the housing, all the ports being on the same side of the diaphragm, the outlet ports being each formed with a valve seat 32, a valve body 30 for each seat, each of the valve bodies being movable towards or away from its seat, means such as a spring 37 for normally urging the valve bodies away from their seats, manually operated means such as a handle and cam 42, 39 for selectively urging the valve bodies toward their respective seats, the diaphragm being located between all of the valve bodies and their seats so that closing movement of any one valve body will clamp a portion of the diaphragm between it and its seat without causing the diaphragm to be clamped against any of the other seats, the diaphragm being secured to each valve body as by a screw 43, Fig. 4, to cause the diaphragm to be moved away from any one of the seats by movement of the valve body for such seat in the direction away from that seat. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the housing has four individually controlled outlets. The device may be applied in pipe-lines between a main liquid storage tank, e.g. for dairy milk, and a number of receptacles to be filled from the tank (Fig. 1, not shown).

[Class 52 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a tripod head e.g. for cinematograph machines, having means for panning and tilting, and charged with grease or liquid to prevent chatter during adjustment, a cylinder 4 secured to a suitable base and with annular cover 9 contains a freely rotatable cylindrical block 12 having a boss 16 with cylinder 17 mounted thereon. Cylinder 17 is closed at end 19 by annular cover 21 and contains cylindrical block 24 having boss 28 to which is affixed a right-angle bracket with limb 32 forming a base for the machine. Cylinders 4, 17 are charged with liquid, the blocks 12, 24. having annular grooves 13, 27 containing packing material constituting a seal against annular covers 9, 21. Locking screws as 10 having heads 11, 23 press against blocks 12, 24 in grooves 14, 25. Lug 34 takes an operating handle and blocks 12, 24 have further grooves or ports to allow free movement of the liquid. In a modification the cylinder 17 is replaced by a cylinder open at each end and the bracket is. of U-shape.

    • 1,173,820. Sharpening machine cutters in situ. E. M. ELEN. 13 May, 1968 [30 May, 1967], No. 24939/67. Heading B3D. [Also in Division D1] A knife blade 12 rotating about a horizontal axis 12A for tearing up rags is sharpened by a pair of sharpening stones 27 which are mounted on a common cradle 24 and normally biased by spring 30 away from the blade but which are moved into contact with the blade by operation of the handle 14 which is connected to the cradle through a link 18 and a spring 31. The handle rotates about shaft 15 and rotates with it the link 18. The Cradle is rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis 24A on a curved arm 22 which is freely rotatable about shaft 15. The stones are double bevel ground for reversal, and the grinding edges 28 of the stones contact opposite sides of the blade 12. When handle 14 is depressed in direction 21 spring 31 extends and pulls cradle 24 downwards by rotating arm 22 against face of spring 30 until stones 27 engage blade 22.
