    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new fullerene derivative having such a structure that 6 or 7 organic groups each composed of 1 to 20 carbon atoms are attached to a fullerene C 70 skeleton. SOLUTION: A method for producing the new fullerene derivative (fullerene metal complex) comprises reacting a fullerene with a monovalent organic copper reagent. The method is industrially advantageous, because it effectively produces the fullerene derivative in a small number of processes. A metal atom used in the method is not specifically limited, but each of the group 1 metal atoms and the group 8 transition metals is especially preferably used. A complex of the group 1 metal has reactivity with a cyclopentadienyl site of the fullerene skeleton, so that the complex is useful as a reactive intermediate and, on the other hand, a complex of the group 8 transition metal is stable, so that the complex is used for materials of various kinds as it is.
