    • An apparatus for reducing the driving power required for an hydraulic elevator in which the elevator car is suspended in the shaft by a cable connected with a piston rod of an hydraulic piston-cylinder drive providing two units of distance of car travel for each unit of distance of piston movement. A counterweight is connected to the head end of the piston rod for travel equal in distance and opposite in direction to the car travel. The counterweight is selected to balance the weight of the car and the most frequently occurring car load. A pump supplies pressured fluid to the cylinder of the drive and, during upward travel of the elevator car, a control system provides a differential circulation of the fluid whereby a smaller fluid volume can be used for the dimensioning of the pump.

    • In a method for HPRF-radar measurement of the range and Doppler frequency of at least one target, a transmit signal is generated which consists of two pulse sequences that are interleaved on a pulse to pulse basis, and have the same pulse repetition frequency PRF and the same transmit frequency. The pulses of a first one of the two pulse sequences have a linearly increasing phase value with a fixed phase difference &phgr;1n (greater than zero) from pulse to pulse with &phgr;1n≧0, while the pulses of the second pulse sequence have a linear increasing phase value with a fixed phase difference &phgr;2n which differs from &phgr;1n. The two received base band signals of each individual pulse sequence are Fourier transformed, and the amplitude peaks of the resulting two Fourier spectra are determined. The amplitude peaks of the two Fourier spectra are then clustered to determine pairs of spectral lines of a Doppler frequency shift of Δ ⁢   ⁢ f = ϕ 2 ⁢ n - ϕ 1 ⁢ n 2 ⁢ π · PRF . The target Doppler frequency is calculated based on two Doppler frequencies of a previously determined spectral line pair, and the target range is calculated based on the phase difference between the two spectral lines of a previously determined spectral line pair.

    • An elevator brake regulating apparatus includes brake actuators, a source of pressured fluid and a brake regulating control connected between the actuators and the fluid source. A fastening housing is attached to a carrier frame of a elevator car and has recesses for retaining guides of a brake shoe with elastic pads to provide vertical displacement of the guides under braking. The brake shoe has brake pads for engaging running surfaces of a guide rail. A brake sensor in each brake pad monitors the condition of the brake pad and signals the control to apply pressured fluid to actuate the corresponding brake actuator. Other sensors for speed, acceleration and retardation of the elevator car are connected to the control for selectively applied the pressured fluid to regulate the braking force on the elevator car.
