摘要： A system and method to control vibrations exerted on a non-vibrating structure. The system includes an adjustable variable stiffness support securely attached to both the non-vibrating structure and a vibrating structure. A driver operably associated with the variable stiffness support is configured to selectively adjust the variable stiffness support. A control system in data communication with both a sensor system and the driver includes an algorithm to determine whether adjustment of the variable stiffness support is required.

摘要： A laser cooling system includes a substrate, an REO layer of single crystal rare earth oxide including at least one rare earth element positioned on the surface of the substrate, and an active layer of single crystal semiconductor material positioned on the REO layer to form a semiconductor-on-insulator (SOI) device. Light guiding structure is at least partially formed by the REO layer so as to introduce energy elements into the REO layer and produce cooling by anti-Stokes fluorescence. The active layer of single crystal semiconductor material is positioned on the REO layer in proximity to the light guiding structure so as to receive the cooling.

An electronic communication device receives and stores numerous SMS messages transported through an SMS network, but the SMS messages are sent without explicit linking information such as a previous message or subject line. A threading module applies threading rules to determine which messages to correlate into an SMS message thread through implicit link information. The threading rules thread outgoing messages sent in response to an incoming message from a user, or incoming messages where a previous outgoing message was sent to the user. An SMS application displays threads in a user interface and indicates messages threads with an icon in one view, and displays an expanded message thread in another view.

摘要： A superconductor-based modulator includes a superconductor coupled to a cold reservoir to receive extreme ultra-violet (EUV) light beams. The light beams are modulated by altering transmission and reflection properties of the superconductor. Magnetic field, temperature, or a combination of both, may be used to control the superconducting properties of the superconductor. The modulator may perform temporal, spatial, and grey-scale modulations. The surface of the superconductor may be patterned with heat or infrared radiation to facilitate light focusing.
