摘要： A computer-implemented method and apparatus for designing and manufacturing vehicles in a distributed design environment and manufacturing plant environment. A database is provided for storing vehicle design data (e.g., tool, part, weld, and torque data) related to the vehicles. A process sheet data structure is used to interrelate the tool, part, weld, and torque data in order to generate process sheet data that depicts the assembly process of the vehicles. The assembling process contains the steps to assemble the vehicles. A manufacturing plant data structure is linked to the process sheet data structure for containing station data and production data for assembling the vehicles in the manufacturing plants. The manufacturing plant data structure associates the station data with the process sheet data in order to indicate the assembly steps for a station contained within the manufacturing data structure. A financial data structure is used to link to the manufacturing plant data structure in order to contain financial data associated with the assembly of the vehicle and the manufacturing plant.

摘要： A method for priming an object with through electrodeposition. The object is initially immersed into a first tank having a first primer bath and a first primer layer is electrodeposited onto the object. The object is removed from the first primer bath and cured to a first predetermined level. The object is then immersed into a second tank having a second primer bath and a second primer layer is electrodeposited onto the object. The object is removed from the second primer bath and cured to a second predetermined level. The primer baths are preferably formulated differently so as to achieve a multi-layer prime coat having several characteristics which would not otherwise be possible if the primer layer was created in one electrodeposition step.

摘要： A transversely mounted vehicle powertrain includes a transmission differential (10) encased in a housing (12), a half shaft bearing support (14), and a link shaft (10) extending between the transmission differential housing and the half shaft bearing support. An inventive tubular member (24) encircles the link shaft to increase the lateral ridigity of the powertrain. A bracket (26) is attached to one end of the tubular member and is mounted to the transmission differential housing (12). The opposite end of the tubular member is secured to the half shaft bearing support (14). In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the tubular member, the bracket, and the half shaft bearing support are cast as a single, integral metal piece.

摘要： A method for controlling an airbag system (10) is provided. The airbag system (10) includes an airbag module (20) which may be deployed at different rates to optimize performance of the airbag module (20) to a given impact. The airbag system (10) includes a control module (14), an impact sensor (16), a seatbelt restraint sensor (18) and an airbag module (20). The airbag module (20) includes an inflator (40) having two independent squibs (42,44), a first one (42) of the squibs being coupled to a first charge (55) and a second one (44) of the squibs being coupled to a second charge (65). The method monitors various vehicle dynamics and controls the generation of first and second squib pulses (66,68) which cause the deployment of the first and second charges (55,65) so as to optimize the rate at which the airbag (46) is deployed for an impact of a given magnitude. The method also monitors the integrity of each squib circuit (42,44) and when a fault in a squib circuit (42,44) is detected, the deployment algorithm is modified to ensure that the airbag (46) will deploy.

摘要： A drive arrangement for articulating a liftgate of a motor vehicle between an open position and a closed position under a source of power. The liftgate is mounted to a body of the motor vehicle for articulation about a horizontally extending pivot axis. The drive arrangement includes a mounting member for attachment to the body of the motor vehicle. A drive motor is attached to the mounting member. A first gear is ultimately driven by the drive motor. A crank arm is pivotally interconnected to the mounting member. The crank arm includes a second gear in meshing relationship with the first gear. The second gear is preferably a sector gear having a plurality of teeth formed on a concavely curved surface thereof. A linkage has a first end attached to the crank arm and a second end for attachment to the liftgate.
