[Class 75 (iv)] In a vehicle or other lamp, the main reflector 3 is arranged above the light source 6 so that rays cross after reflection and result in a substantially flattopped semicircular beam, and a second reflector is so arranged beneath the light source as to reflect light onto the main reflector in such a manner as to be reflected therefrom to the sides of and below the main beam. The second reflector comprises a pair of paraboloidal members 8, 9, or semi-elliptic, eccentric spherical or plane surfaces. A shield 15 carried by the second reflector may be provided to intercept direct rays escaping upwardly. The lower part 4 of the reflector is blackened.

Lantern shutters and screens.-A shade or dimming-shutter for the lamps of motor road and other vehicles comprises a pair of perforated or semi-transparent flaps a, b hinged on a support adapted to be clipped or otherwise secured to the front of the lamp. In the form shown, the flaps a, b are hinged about a pivot pin c mounted in lugs d on a channel-shaped ring e, which is adapted to fit the lens ring f of the lamp and is secured thereon by means of perforated lugs g engaged by the hinge-pins h. The flaps are held either open or closed by a tension spring i connecting bent lugs a , b on the two flaps, and the lugs d ensure that the flaps will be at right-angles to the lens when in their open position. The flaps may be secured together in their open position by a catch fastening, for instance a pair of knobs as employed on purses.

摘要： 4146. Brown, D. E., and Shelley, Ltd., R. T. Feb. 18. Wind guards for motor-vehicles &c. Windscreen joints of the kind comprising a worm and worm-wheel which serve to operate the screen and hold it in the adjusted position have the worm-wheel arranged in a strap or case which may be contracted upon the wheel to prevent rattling of the joint. The worm-wheel f is preferably plain for a portion of its periphery, and is mounted in a recess or track in a strap or case a formed with extensions c, d which are bored to receive the worm g. The worm is actuated to operate the screen by a handle i formed with eccentric faces k which, when the handle is turned downwards, engage a collar l on the strap causing an axial movement of the worm and a binding of the strap upon the worm-wheel. The wheel may be formed with parts of its periphery plain to form slightly projecting bearing-surfaces, and covering-disks or other enclosing-device may be provided. The wheel may be keyed to a cross-rod forming the base of the screen frame and mounted in side brackets, or the joint may be arranged in various ways for application to the screen.
