    • 646,957. Bobbins &c. HEADING, C. T. W. Jan. 9, 1948, No. 748. [Class 120(iii)] A bobbin is built up from a set of sleeve forming components, each extending for at least the required length of the sleeve, and two or more apertured cheeck plates, the latter having projections of the same thickness as the cheek plate, reaching into the apertures, which engage slots formed completely through certain of the sleeve forming components to effect interlock. The remaining sleeve forming components are longitudinally slidable into position after the said slotted components are positioned and serve as keys to maintain said interlock and are themselves retained against inward displacement. As shown, each cheek plate 1 is formed with an aperture 4 having tongues 5 which engage the slots 6 in a pair of plates 2 which are of slightly less width than the aperture 4 such that, after their positioning on two or more cheek plates, keying plates 3 which have rebates 7, 8 may be slid into position to maintain the interlock between plates 2 and cheek plates 1. The rebates prevent any of the sleeve forming components collapsing inwards. A further embodiment is described in which the cheek plates are circular and the sleeve forming components arcuate, thus forming a cylindrical bobbin. Specification 486,535 is referred to.

    • 936,499. Bobbins. C. T. W. HEADING. Nov. 14, 1960, No. 39033/60. Class 120 (3). A transformer or like bobbin comprises a rectangular cross-section tube 1 having a rectangular-apertured cheek plate 2 at each end mounted thereon, each plate 2 being a push fit over the tube end and being held in line with inset edges 4 by edges 7 of the aperture 3 interlocked with recesses 5 or 6. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, tongues 8 engage slots 5 in the tube 1. In a modification, Fig. 4, the edges 7 which may be curved snap into grooves 6 as the cheeks 2 are pushed into position. The bobbin is made of insulating material, e.g. treated paper, fibre, synthetic plastic or a combination of these materials. A paper tube 1 may be made by winding paper strip around a mandrel and treating it before or after winding with wax. If the bobbin is made of synthetic plastic the tube 1 and cheeks 2 may be moulded and the cheeks are heated to enable them to be positioned on the tube and they are then cooled. Specification 646,957 is referred to.

    • 706,257. Pneumatic separating. KNAPP & BATES, Ltd., and SWEET, C. T. April 4, 1952 [June 12, 1951], No. 13863/51. Class 117 The dry separation of lump or granular mineral solids is effected by a vibrated or reciprocated sloping air permeable support deck up through which air or gas is passed from a fan 1, the deck carrying a separately mounted transverse riffle 10 to collect the separated solids and allow the remainder to pass over it to a discharge shoot 19, and having means to further increase its slope whereby unseparated material is discharged over the riffle, which initially remains in contact with the support deck, to the shoot, but on still further tilting of the deck the riffle and deck separate so that the separated solids are discharged beneath the riffle to a second shoot 19 1 . To this end the riffle 10 (a rubber strip) may be separately mounted on a spring controlled rod 13 and urged by a spring 18 into contact with the deck but with its downward stroke limited by a stop on the rod. The deck is mounted in a casing 6 which as a whole is vibrated by an eccentric 5 driven from the motor driving the fan, being connected to the feed hopper 7 and fan 1 by flexible connections 9. The deck may be of woven wire cloth to allow fines to pass through for subsequent collection from the windbox 2. A dust hood 17 surrounds the rod 13 beneath the supporting member 14 on the casing.

    • Systems and methods for shearless digital hologram acquisition, including an apparatus incorporating an illumination source configured to produce a first beam of light, which is then split by a beamsplitter into a reference beam and an object illumination beam. The reference beam is directed onto a phase-shaping optical element which imparts a phase shift to the reference beam and returns the phase-shifted reference beam on itself to the beamsplitter. The object illumination beam is directed onto an object, and a portion of the beam is reflected back to the beamsplitter, which combines the phase-shifted reference beam and object illumination beam substantially coaxially. The combined beams are passed through a focusing lens which focuses them at a focal plane. A digital recorder is positioned at the focal plane to record the spatially heterodyne hologram formed by the focused phase-shifted reference beam and reflected object illumination beam.
