摘要： Grating structures adapted to support cavity modes ("CMs"), including CMs produced by waveguide modes (WGs) of TE -polarized radiation; and those produced by WGs or vertically-oriented surface plasmons (VSPs) on the groove walls of incident TM- polarized radiation are provided. Such grating structures include those that provide enhanced transmission for a predetermined polarization state at a predetermined wavelength, simultaneous TM and TE transmission, and those that provide light circulation and weaving. The grating structures can include wires, or arrays of holes in thin (metallic) films, and include multiple-groove-per-period structures. Methods for optimizing such grating structures are also provided.

摘要： A semiconductor device includes a semiconductor substrate and an antireflective conductive layer. The antireflective conductive layer includes a metal layer disposed on the semiconductor substrate and defining at least one array of apertures through the metal layer. 摘要： A solar cell arrangement includes a metal layer defining multiple cavities through the metal layer. Each cavity has a lateral cross-sectional dimension that is preferably in the range of 50 nanometers to 5 micrometers. The solar cell arrangement may include sets of solar cell elements, each set including cavities with one or more dimensions (e.g., lateral cross-sectional dimension or dimensions) that differ from those of cavities in the other sets. It is believed that each set of solar cell elements channels light of a different wavelength band into its cavities utilizing surface plasmon modes on the walls of the cavities or optical cavity modes within the cavity (or both surface plasmon modes and optical cavity modes). A solar cell is disposed in each of the cavities. Preferably, the solar cell is selected to absorb light in the wavelength hand associated with the corresponding cavity and to convert the absorbed light into electricity.

摘要： A device for enhancing transmission of incident electromagnetic radiation at a predetermined wavelength is presented that includes an aperture array structure in a thin film. The structure includes a repealing unit cell having more than one aperture including a first aperture and a second aperture, wherein a parameter of the first aperture differs from that of the second aperture. The unit cell repeats with a periodicity on the order of or less than said predetermined wavelength, The structure parameters are configured to preferentially support cavity modes for coupling to and enhancing transmission of a predetermined polarization state at the predetermined wavelength. By structuring the unit cell with apertures that differ by appropriate degrees in at least one of dimension, height, dielectric constant of material filling the apertures, shape, and orientation, the devices can be adapted for polarization and/or wavelength filtering- and/or light circulating, weaving, or channeling.
