摘要： A continuously variable transmission device, for a motor vehicle, has an extra crank 9 connected to an engine crankshaft 10 and to a connecting rod 8 which causes crank 7 to oscillate drive shaft 6 so as to twist and untwist spring 4 relative to road wheel 2. When the spring 4 is twisted in a clockwise direction a one way clutch or free-wheel device 5 locks and torque is transmitted to the road wheel 2 via a road wheel drive shaft 3. When the oscillating drive shaft 6 has rotated back anti-clockwise sufficiently far to untwist the spring 4 to zero torque, the free-wheel device 5 unlocks and slides freely in an anti-clockwise direction allowing the vehicle to roll on. The transmission replaces a gearbox and clutch and, by using separate devices for each driven wheel, cloud replace a differential and provide traction control.

摘要： The invention relates to a cover or lid for a hot tub or spa and comprises a slab of insulation 9 enclosed with a water vapour barrier layer 10 with a gap 13 in the vapour barrier layer. The gap is at a position where the temperature is normally less than that within the insulation. The gap allows water vapour to escape and prevents weight gain due to the build up of condensation and subsequent waterlogging of the insulation material. By allowing water vapour to escape, the life of the cover or lid is substantially extended. The barrier layer may be bonded to the insulating slab and thereby forms a seal to prevent water from entering between them. The insulation is preferably expanded polystyrene and the barrier layer a high-density polyethylene, A channel 12 may also be formed in the underside of the slab to increase ventilation between the corner of the cover or lid and the vapour space (11 figure 2).

摘要： Carbon dioxide is permanently and economically removed from the atmosphere on a huge scale by adding powdered limestone (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) or dolomite, CaMg(CO3)2) to the ocean so it reaches a depth where it can dissolve 5. Dissolved limestone returns to the surface at 7 in upwelling current 6. The dissolved limestone will increase the alkalinity of the ocean and encourages the ocean to dissolve more carbon dioxide to maintain an equilibrium. Preferably the material may be formed into a slurry with water and discharged in the ocean such that the plume drops to a depth where carbonate ion concentration is below the solubility limit for calcium carbonate. The solubility of the limestone may be enhanced by ocean fertilization.

摘要： A process for removing acetone from an acetone/methyl acetate/methyl iodide mixture comprises extractive distillation with water being introduced to the distillation zone above the point of introduction of the mixture and acetic acid being introduced at or above the point of introduction of the mixture. In a preferred embodiment the mixture is subjected to an initial extraction with an aqueous extractant to remove most of the methyl iodide. The process is particularly applicable to removing acetone by-product in carbonylation processes for the production of acetic anhydride.
