    • The present invention relates to a method for producing fatty acid alkyl esters using microorganisms having an oil-producing ability, and more particularly to a method for producing fatty acid alkyl esters which comprises: culturing microorganisms having an oil-producing ability and accumulating oil in large amounts; degrading the produced oil to produce free fatty acids through autolysis in the microorganisms; and performing an alkyl esterification of free fatty acids. The method according to the present invention can convert oil accumulated in microorganisms such as triacyl glycerol which is an oil generally produced by microorganisms to fatty acid alkyl esters with high conversion efficiency through a metabolic engineering approach. Therefore, the present invention is useful for the industrial production of fatty acid alkyl esters which have recently been identified as a biodiesel.

    • The present invention relates to a mutant microorganism having the ability to generate hydrocarbon containing alkanes and to a method for producing hydrocarbons containing alkanes using the same. More particularly, the present invention relates to a mutant microorganism in which genes that code for enzymes for converting fatty acyl-acps to free fatty acids, genes that code for enzymes for converting free fatty acids to fatty acyl-CoA, genes that code for enzymes for converting fatty acyl-CoA to fatty aldehydes, and genes that code for enzymes for converting fatty aldehydes to alkanes are introduced to the microorganisms improved to be appropriate for the production of hydrocarbons containing alkanes. The present invention also relates to a method for producing hydrocarbons containing alkanes. The mutant microorganism according to the present invention has a high possibility of being utilized in strain improvement resulting from an additional metabolic control, and therefore, can be valuably used in the industrial production of hydrocarbons containing alkanes.

    • The present invention relates to a recombinant microorganism having an improved ability to produce butanol and to a production method for butanol using the same, and more specifically relates to a recombinant microorganism for biosynthesis of butanol in which 2-ketoisovalerate, which is a precursor of L-valine, is used as an intermediate, and relates to a production method for butanol using the same. A feature of the recombinant microorganism according to the present invention is that a microorganism having the ability to produce 2-ketoisovalerate, which is a precursor of L-valine, has introduced therein: a gene coding for VorABC enzyme which is an enzyme that converts 2-ketoisovalerate into isobutyryl-CoA; a gene coding for an enzyme that converts isobutyryl-CoA into butyryl-CoA; a gene coding for an enzyme that converts butyryl-CoA into butyraldehyde; and a gene coding for an enzyme that converts butyraldehyde into butanol. Unlike existing Clostridium acetobutylicum, the recombinant microorganism according to the present invention is easy to grow, has a substantial strain-improvement potential due to additional metabolic flux manipulation and is useful as a microorganism for the industrial production of butanol, and a recombinant microorganism is provided which has an improved ability to produce butanol by simplifying the process for converting 2-ketoisovalerate to isobutyryl-CoA.
