Tyres, non-elastic, and rims; spring wheels with sectional outer guided members. - A tyre for heavy vehicles comprises transverse or oblique wedge-shaped metal pieces B, secured to the rim by radial bolts b or otherwise, and dovetail sections C of hard wood, hard fibre, hard rubber, or the like, which are forced laterally into the spaces between the metal pieces and held by side rings D secured to the metal pieces. The grain of the wood may be radial. The width of the spaces between the metal pieces may decrease from one side of the wheel to the other. The central web of the rim, to which the spokes are attached, is connected to the rim by transverse webs a . According to the Provisional Specification, the metal pieces B may be integral with the rim, or they may rest on rubber strips on the rim, the bolts b having stiff spring washers bearing on the inside of the rim.

    • 20,937. Dadge, B. N. Sept. 21. Gas and like engines, starting and igniting in. To prevent road-vehicle and other engines from being started while in gear, provision is made to prevent the closing of the ignition circuit until the speed-varying lever is in its neutral position. In all cases, it is necessary to break the ignition circuit when stopping. In Figs. 1 and 2, the apparatus is shown applied to a road-vehicle engine, the lever 1 having broken the igniting-circuit 2, 5, 15, 21, 20, 12, 11, 18, 19, 17 by being moved over the contact 4 into its extreme left-hand position. From this position the lever can move into engagement with the contact 4, but any further advance is arrested by the projection 6 and lever 7, 9. To close the igniting-circuit, the speed-varying lever 22 is moved over to its central position, thus disengaging the engine, if this has not already been effected, and completing the electro-magnetic circuit 13, 11, 18, 19, 17, 2, 4, 10 through the contacts 23, 24. The electro-magnet 10 being excited releases the lever 1, which' may then move over to complete the igniting-circuit through the contact 5. A separate switch may be inserted in the electromagnetic circuit, so as to break the circuit in the event of the levers 1, 22 being so arranged as to otherwise close the circuit when-the engine is standing idle. Dry-cells may be used to excite the electro-magnet, when a magneto is used 'for generating the igniting-current.
