    • The invention relates to an illumination system (2), aluminaire (2), a backlighting system and a display device. The illumination system according to the invention comprises a light exit window (30) for emitting light from the illumination system, and a diffuse reflecting screen (40) arranged opposite the light exit window. The illumination systemfurther comprises a light source (20) which is arranged for indirect illumination of the light exit window via the diffuse reflecting screen. The light source is arranged near an edge ofthe light exit window on an imaginary plane (22) arranged substantially parallel to the light exit window and emits light away from the light exit window. The illumination system further comprises an edge wall (62) comprising a specular reflecting mirror (60) being concavelyshaped for reflecting at least part of the light emitted by the light source towards the diffuse reflecting screen. The effect of the illumination system according to the invention is that the use ofthe specular reflecting mirror enables a controlled reflection of the part of the light emitted by the light source towards the diffuse reflecting screen.

    • The invention provides an illumination device (1), arranged to provide illumination device light (250). The illumination device (1) comprising a light chamber (100), an electrically variable scattering element (500), and a controller (600). The light chamber (100) contains a light emitting diode (10) (LED) arranged to emit LED light (20); comprises a luminescent material layer(200) arranged remote from the LED (10) and arranged to absorb at least part of the LED light (20) and emit luminescent material emission (220); and comprises an exit face (301), through which one or more of the LED light (20) and the luminescent material emission(220) may escape to the exterior (22) of the light chamber (100) thereby providing illumination device light (250). The controller (600) is electrically connected to the electrically variable scattering element (500) and arranged to control the scattering of the electrically variable scattering element (500). Such device may allow the possibility of colour tuning and/or correlated colour temperature tuning of the illumination device light.

    • An illumination system comprising at least two light sources arranged closely together and each emitting a unique light spectrum during operation, and an optical system (1). The optical system comprises an optical waveguide (4) with a coupling-in face (6) and a coupling-out face (7). The optical system further comprises a mirroring transition part (8) connecting the coupling-out face of the optical waveguide to a transparent light extraction panel (9). The transparent light extraction panel has an extraction structure (11) for coupling out light to the exterior. The optical waveguide and the extraction means are specularly reflecting, the mirror preferably being substantially specularly reflecting. Compared with the known illumination systems, the illumination system of the invention is relatively efficient and has an improved control of the light beam.

    • The invention relates to a scanning illumination system for illuminating a display device.
