    • Methods and apparatus for soft edge masking. A soft edge masking technique may be provided via which, starting from an initial, potentially very rough and approximate border selection mask, the user may selectively apply brush strokes to areas of an image to selectively improve the border region of the mask, thus providing softness details in border regions which contain soft objects such as hair and fur. A stroke may be an additive stroke indicating a particular region in which detail from an original image is to be added to a composite image, or a subtractive stroke indicating a particular region in which detail is to be removed from the composite image. The stroke may also indicate a strength parameter value that may be used to indicate an amount of bias to be used in opacity calculations for the affected pixels.

    • A system and method of creating interactive visual content in which base visual content, a selection of a trigger event associated with the base visual content, and intermediate visual content are received as an input. Viewing visual content derived from the base visual content is automatically generated. The viewing visual content can be displayed by a viewing application executing on a computer. A set of regions of the interactive visual content in which swap visual content is to be displayed by the viewing application when the trigger event occurs is automatically generated. For example, regions of the viewing visual content that are to be replace by the swap visual content when the trigger event occurs can be identified. Also, the swap visual content is automatically generated from the intermediate visual content. In addition, instructions operable to cause the computer executing the viewing application to display the swap visual content in the identified regions when the trigger event occurs is automatically generated. Moreover, the intermediate visual content can be received by providing a user interface enabling a designer to edit the intermediate visual content as an integral unit.

    • Various embodiments of methods and apparatus for removing unwanted background color from a border region surrounding a foreground object in an image in order to composite the foreground object of the image with a new background image are described. Embodiments of color decontamination for image compositing may accept an image and an alpha matte corresponding to the image as input. In some embodiments, estimated foreground colors are determined for pixels in a border region between the foreground and the background of the input image. In some embodiments, the input image may be created by down-sampling a higher resolution image and pixels with estimated foreground colors may be up-sampled. In some embodiments, a composite image may be created based on the input image, the alpha matte, the estimated foreground colors of pixels in the border region and a new background image. In some embodiments, a texture preserving luminance blending operation may be performed using the estimated foreground colors for pixels in the border region to create refined foreground colors for pixels in the border region. In some embodiments, a composite image may be created further based on the refined foreground colors for pixels in the border region. In some embodiments, parameters controlling the creation of a composite image may be set in response to user input.
