    • An electric brake assembly and method are characterized by a brake disk stack (12) and an actuator assembly (11) for applying braking force to the brake disk stack, the actuator assembly including an actuator mounting member (18), and at least one actuator module (27) removably mounted to the actuator mounting member, each actuator module including an electric motor (80) and a ram (26) carried by a respective housing (34), the housing of each actuator module having at least one mounting flange (36) for abutting an axially outwardly facing mounting surface on the actuator mounting member when in a first rotated position within an aperture (42) in the actuator mounting member, and the mounting flange having a configuration for axial passage through the aperture when in a second rotated position, thereby to facilitate easy disassembly of the actuator module from the mounting member. In addition, an electric brake assembly and method are characterized by a brake disk stack (12) having a center axis, and a plurality electro-mechanical actuators (27) for applying braking pressure to the brake disk stack, the actuators being circumferentially arranged around the center axis and each actuator including a housing (34), a linearly movable ram (26), a screw (94) for linearly moving the ram, a nut (90) mounted for rotation in the housing and operatively engaged with the screw such that rotation of the nut effects linear movement of the screw for urging the ram into forceful engagement with the brake disk stack, an electric motor (80) for rotating the nut, and a sleeve (98) telescoped over the ram nut and movable with the screw, for preventing foreign material from entering the actuator.

    • An electric brake (10) comprises an actuator module (27) including a module housing (36), a reciprocating ram (26), and an electric motor (31) operatively connected to the reciprocating ram (26) for selectively extending and retracting the reciprocating ram (26) with respect to the module housing (36). The ram (26) has an inner portion of non-circular cross-section and an outer portion of circular cross-sectional, and the housing (36) has a guideway (58) for the ram (26), which guideway (58) has an inner portion (62) of non-circular cross-section for interacting with the inner portion of the ram (26) to prevent rotation of the inner portion of the ram (26), and an forward portion of circular cross-sectional (65). The actuator module (27) can be equipped with a bi-stable holding brake (34) having a first state permitting at least retraction of the ram (26) and a second state preventing at least retraction of the ram (26). The invention also provides an electrical connector (43) having an insertion direction for connecting to a mating connector, which insertion direction is parallel or perpendicular to the movement direction of the ram (26). Also provided is a cable conduit (29) including a generally arcuate-shaped channel, a plurality of module connectors (43) disposed along the length of the channel for connecting to respective actuator modules (27) of an electric brake (10), a common connector disposed along the length of the channel for connecting to an external cable, and electrical wiring in the channel for connecting the common connector to each of the module connectors. In addition, the brake head (18) can have plural radially outwardly opening slots (75) at radially outer sides thereof for receiving the actuator modules (27).

    • An electric brake comprises an actuator module including a module housing, a reciprocating ram, and an electric motor operatively connected to the reciprocating ram for selectively extending and retracting the reciprocating ram with respect to the module housing.
