    • PURPOSE: A method for screening of fungicide is provided, which method can be effectively used in developing new medicines having fungicidal effects. CONSTITUTION: The method for measuring activity of fungal acyl CoA:sterol acyl transferase comprises the steps of: reacting fungal acyl CoA:sterol acyl transferase(ASAT) with sterol and acyl group as substrates; and determining the amount of sterol ester as a product of the reaction. The method for screening fungal acyl CoA:sterol acyl transferase comprises the steps of: cultivating fungal cell; treating the cultivated fungal cell with a substance assumed as an acyl CoA:sterol acyl transferase(ASAT) inhibitor; and determining the amount of oleic acid in the substance treated medium, in which the amount of oleic acid can be analyzed by using a liquid scintillation counter.

    • PURPOSE: Pheromone compound having aging and stress controlling activities, and a process for isolating the same are provided, which compound is useful for studies on aging and stress, metabolism pathway and signal transfer system, and disease development mechanism. CONSTITUTION: A pheromone compound, 6-(3,5-dihydroxy-6 -methyl-tetrahydro -pyran-2-yloxy) -heptanoic acid, having aging and stress controlling activities is represented by the formula(1). A process for isolating the pheromone compound of the formula(1) comprises the steps of: growing C. elegans in S basal broth medium, concentrating the medium and extracting the concentrated medium with ethanol; dissolving the extract in water and extracting the solution with ethylacetate; removing impurities using silica-gel adsorption chromatography; subjecting the active fraction to HPLC(High performance liquid chromatography) coupled with amine residue; and subjecting the active fraction to HPLC using the molecular weight size.
