    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal regenerating method with less power consumption to reduce a bit error rate.
      SOLUTION: A method for all-optical regeneration of an optical signal intensity-modulated with a DFB laser diode is proposed. The DFB laser diode is selected to have a gain-bandwidth covering the signal wavelength, while the signal wavelength is located at the outside of the stopped bandwidth of the DFB laser diode. Moreover, the DFB laser diode is selected to have bistable amplification characteristic for the signal wavelength. The bistable amplification characteristic shows a hysteresis including ascending branch and descending branch wherein the ascending branch is located at a higher input power level than that of the descending branch. The DFB laser diode is driven to operate under the condition of bistable amplification. The descending branch in the hysteresis curve is located at a higher input power level than the lower power level of an optical signal pulse, while the ascending branch in the hysteresis curve is located at a lower input power level than the higher power level of the optical signal pulse.
