    • A system and method for efficient improvement of branch prediction in a microprocessor with negligible impact on die-area, power consumption, and clock cycle period. It is determined if a program counter (PC) register contains a polymorphic indirect unconditional branch (PIUB) instruction. One determination may be searching a table with a portion or all of a PC of past PIUB instructions. If a hit occurs in this table, the global shift register (GSR) is updated by shifting a portion of the branch target address into the GSR, rather than updating the GSR with a taken/not-taken prediction bit. The stored value in the GSR is input into a hashing function along with the PC in order to index prediction tables such as a pattern history table (PHT), a branch target buffer (BTB), an indirect target array, or other. The updated value due to the PIUB instruction improves the accuracy of the prediction tables.

    • In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a check/correct circuit coupled to a control circuit. The check/correct circuit is coupled to receive a block of data and corresponding check bits. The block of data is received as N transmissions, each transmission including M data bits and L check bits. The check/correct circuit is configured to detect one or more errors in each of a plurality of non-overlapping windows of K bits in the M data bits, responsive to the M data bits and the L check bits. The control circuit is configured to record which of the plurality of windows have had errors detected and, if a given window of the plurality of windows has had errors detected in each of the N transmissions of the block, the control circuit is configured to signal a device failure. Each of K, L, M, and N are integers greater than one.

    • A method and apparatus for conditional cancellation of a calibration procedure is performed. In one embodiment, a memory controller is coupled to memory. The memory controller is configured to convey data and a data strobe signal to the memory. The memory controller may conduct calibrations of a delay of the data strobe signal to ensure sufficient setup and hold time for the data. After an initial calibration, and at each of a number of periodic intervals, the memory controller may determine whether one or more parameters is within a specified range. If one of the one or more parameters is not within its respective specified range, another calibration of the data strobe delay may be performed. However, if each of the one or more parameters is within its respective specified range, the calibration may be canceled.

    • Provided is a portable ventilator system, including a ventilator supply system having a ventilator mask, an air/oxygen source and an air/oxygen regulator system, and including a communications device that, during use, automatically contacts an emergency response entity in response to activation of the portable ventilator system. Also provided is a ventilator system that includes at least one ventilator mask sized to fit upon a selected range of sizes of human faces, a ventilator supply system having an air/oxygen source and an air/oxygen regulator system, and an air/oxygen flow regulation valve having an inlet, an inlet/outlet in communication with a ventilator mask coupled to the ventilator supply system, and an outlet in communication with a surrounding atmosphere. During use, air/oxygen flows through the inlet and the inlet/outlet to facilitate ventilation of a human, and air/oxygen flows through the inlet/outlet and the outlet to facilitate exhalation by a human to the surrounding atmosphere. Further, during use, one of the ventilator masks is coupled to the ventilator supply system to provide air/oxygen to a human, and the air/oxygen regulator system regulates air/oxygen flow parameters as a function of a size of the ventilator mask coupled to the ventilator supply system.
