    • An exemplary heat dissipation device includes a fan having a plurality of first fixing cylinders, a heat sink having a plurality of second fixing cylinders, and a plurality of fasteners fixing the fan to the heat sink. Each of the fasteners includes a screwing post, an elastic member encircling the screwing post, and an annular fastening collar engaging with the screwing post. Each of the fasteners extends through a corresponding first fixing cylinder of the fan and a corresponding second fixing cylinder of the heat sink. The elastic member of each fastener is compressed between the corresponding first fixing cylinder and the corresponding second fixing cylinder.

    • An ultrafast laser system includes a seed laser that provides a signal laser pulse and a fiber-based first chirped reflective Bragg grating that reflects the signal laser pulse propagating along a first path and produce a stretched laser pulse longer than the signal laser pulse. A grating frequency of the first chirped reflective Bragg grating varies along the first path. An amplifier can amplify the stretched laser pulse and output an amplified laser pulse. A second chirped reflective Bragg grating can reflect the amplified laser pulse and produce a compressed laser pulse shorter than the amplified laser pulse. The amplified laser pulse propagates along a second path in the second chirped reflective Bragg grating. A grating frequency of the second chirped reflective Bragg grating varies in an opposite direction along the second path as the grating frequency of the first chirped reflective Bragg grating varies along the first path.

    • An optical motion tracking device (10) includes a photo detector array (18) comprised of highly sensitive photo sensors coupled to a computational circuit (19) inside a casing (11). The photo detector array (18) detects optical features of a surface (25) using ambient light reflected from or propagated through the surface (25) and transmitted into the casing through an aperture (15). Protrusions (14) on the bottom (10) lifts the device (10) from the surface (25) and allow the ambient light to illuminate the surface (25). A nontransparent sidewall (17) encloses a light path from the aperture (15) to the photo detector array (18) to reduce light interference. A reflective band (32) near the aperture (15) to increases the illumination of the surface (25). The computational circuit (19) calculates the correlation between the images from the photo detector array (18) to track the motion of the device (10).

    • A semisynthetic route has been provided in the preparation of docetaxel and paclitaxel. This new process involves the conversion of 9-dihydro-13-acetylbaccatin III to docetaxel and paclitaxel by the step of converting 9-dihydro-13-acetylbaccatin III into 7-O-triethylsilyl-9,10-diketobaccatin III, and adding docetaxel and paclitaxel side chain precursors, respectively, to form a new class of taxane intermediates, such as 7-O-triethylsilyl-9,10-diketodocetaxel and 7-O-triethylsilyl-9,10-diketopaclitaxeltaxel. These new intermediates then by a series reduction, acetylation of the 10-hydroxyl position for paclitaxel and finally deprotection to yield docetaxel and paclitaxel, the most important anti-cancer drugs.
