    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission mechanism with a pair of clutch systems.SOLUTION: The transmission mechanism has an upstream gear ratio and a downstream gear ratio that are combined to provide an effective gear ratio. A different clutch drive member is mounted to an input side of each of the pair of clutch systems. The upstream gear ratio is determined by the gear ratio between the engine input member and one of the clutch drive members. Output sides of respective clutch systems drive an associated one of a pair of layshafts. Pinions are located on and selectively driven by the layshafts. A countershaft is spaced from both of the layshafts, and has a plurality of gears. Each of the gears is driven for rotation by one of the pinions of the layshafts. The downstream gear ratio is determined by the gear ratio between the selected pinion and the intermeshed gear.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce operating noise and further improve durability in a cushioning structure for a sprocket used in a roller chain or a bush chain.SOLUTION: Annular first and second cushion rings 2 and 3 are provided in such a way as to be able to slide against each other along grooves 10a in a sprocket 1. The first cushion ring 2 consists of a single wire, and has a wave-like shape comprising a plurality of projections 2a. The second cushion ring 3 consists of a single wire, and has a circular shape along the outer circumference of the sprocket 1. When a roller chain 5 meshes with the sprocket, rollers 50 make contact with the second cushion ring 3, causing the second cushion ring 3 to elastically deform, then causing the first cushion ring 2 to elastically deform. At this point, the first and the second cushion rings 2 and 3 slide against each other. As a result, the impact noise of the roller 50 and the sprocket teeth 10 is effectively reduced.
