    • The steering wheel assembly disclosed herein is mountable on a steering shaft and includes at least a bolt, a boss, and a steering wheel body. The boss is adapted to be fitted on the steering shaft and includes a cylindrical portion and a yoke portion formed integrally with the cylindrical portion. The cylindrical portion has a boss serration corresponding to a serration of the steering shaft. The yoke portion has through holes formed near both ends thereof. The steering wheel body includes a ring core bar, spoke core bars coupled to the ring core bar, sheaths covering the ring core bar and spoke core bars, and a pad formed integrally with the sheaths. Part of the spoke core bars are connected to the boss. The bolt has and external thread that is receivable by the through holes and engageable with internal threads of at least one of the through holes so as to permit the boss, to which the steering wheel body is connected, to be fixed on the steering shaft. The boss includes a boss body and flange formed integrally with the boss body. The boss body includes the cylindrical and yoke portions. The boss flange has a larger area than the yoke portion and is embedded in the spoke core bars.

    • In a rodless cylinder unit with brake, which comprises a sliding table slidably held on a cylinder tube, brake bands inserted into the sliding table and both ends thereof fixed on both ends of the cylinder tube, and said sliding table provided with a brake for squeezing the brake bands, a slit with open upper end is formed on a side of the rodless cylinder of the cylinder tube, an air supply tube is accommodated in the slit, one end of the air supply tube is connected to the sliding table, and the other end of the air supply tube is connected to an end of the cylinder tube. When the air for brake release is supplied to the brake through the air supply tube, the brake is released, and the sliding table becomes movable. When the sliding table is moved, the air supply tube accommodated in the slit is overlapped or not overlapped with very low friction depending upon the moving direction of the sliding table. When the air for brake release is discharged and the air for brake locking is supplied through the other air supply tube as necessary, braking force is generated, and the sliding table is stopped. A movable brake holder of the brake is manually lockable in the released position by engagement of a hook on a rotatable manual plate in a groove in the brake holder.

    • A sensor is provided in a hospital bed having a bed-mat made of movable particles. This sensor is to detect an excessive bead temperature in the case of a controller malfunction and to control the operation of a cooler. In the sensor, the circuit is so designed that an air compressor runs intermittently with the aid of timers while the sensor performs its functions at a temperature above the predetermined temperature level. The sensor also enables the compressor to run again when the temperature of the mat lowers to a level where a normal operation is possible to assure temperature control of the bed-mat even in the case of controller malfunctions.

    • A shock absorber has expansion and compression damping characteristics readily adjustable, if required, to different extents. In one preferred form, it includes an adjustable orifice associated with a piston, and the orifice includes an annular flexible valve element and a valve-seat member engageable with the inner peripheral edge thereof. The valve-seat member is formed at the bottom with feet which are arranged opposite to a stepped or continuously inclined annular top surface portion of the piston and is axially movable for engagement with the latter. The amount of axial movement of the valve-seat member and hence that of deflection of the valve element is adjustable by rotation of the valve-seat member relative to the piston through provision therefor at the top of the cylinder. In an alternative form, the shock absorber has an expansion and a compression damping mechanism separately incorporated therein, including an externally adjustable valve mechanism arranged in the bottom of the cylinder in addition to the one associated with the piston. In this instance, the cylinder is received in a tubular casing for rotation relative thereto.
