A distance in the medium conveying path between the information reading position and a nip portion between the first conveying roller and the first pressure roller is shorter than a distance between a leading end of the conveyed medium and back end of the recording area. The first driven pulley is disposed upstream from the driving pulley in the belt moving direction.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet separating and feeding device which keeps a separation amount between an endless belt and paper constant, while varying the height of a stack part in accordance with stiffness of sheet material.SOLUTION: The sheet separating and feeding device includes: a bottom plate 7 on which a plurality of sheet materials 1 can be stacked; a control means that controls elevating and lowering of the bottom plate 7; and an attracting and separating unit 15 that attracts and holds the uppermost sheet material 1a out of the plurality of sheets 1 stacked on the bottom plate 7 by the endless belt 2 made of dielectric. Out of a plurality of holding rollers 5 and 6 holding the endless belt 2, the holding roller 6 located on an upstream side in a sheet 1 feeding direction takes a shaft 5a of the holding roller 5 located on a downstream side as an axis of rotation, and rotates with movement of the endless belt 2 by rotation of the holding roller 5 located on the downstream side. The sheet separating and feeding device includes a stopper 16 that adjusts moving width in a height direction of the holding roller 6 located on the upstream side. Then, elevating and lowering operation is regulated and controlled by an amount equivalent to dimension S of a slot 16a of the stopper 16.
