摘要： PURPOSE:To secure a stable sealing property along the whole surface of fluid holes by providing a metallic ring and a seal member at the adequate positions, in a metallic gasket in which at least two sheets of substrates are provided opposing the tops of their beads each other. CONSTITUTION:Fluid holes 11 and 21 through which a pressure fluid pass are formed, and two sheets of metallic substrates 10 and 20 on which beads 13 and 23 are formed respectively are provided around the fluid holes 11 and 21. While a metallic ring 14 is welded between the inner periphery at the projecting side of the bead 13 of one side substrate 10 and the fluid hole 11, a seal member 30 is provided at the outer periphery at the projecting side of the bead 23 of the other side substrate 20. The substrates 10 and 20 are arranged to oppose the tops of the beads 13 and 23 each other.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of dislocation to a folded part so as to seal a pressure fluid positively even with the generation of a crack to a bent part by folding the peripheral edge part of a hole bored in a metal base radially so as to be overlapped with the body part of the base, and welding the folded part to the body part along the peripheral edge of the hole. CONSTITUTION:A metal gasket is provided with a base 10 made of an elastic metal plate, and the peripheral edge part of a hole bored to form a combustion chamber hole 14 is folded onto the protruding part 20a side of a bead 20 to form a folded part 10b. The folded part 10b is welded, along the hole peripheral edge, to the body part 10d of the base 10 by a laser welding machine so as to form a substantially continuous weld line 21 and the folded part 10b is adhesively jointed to the body part 10d. Accordingly, even if a crack is generated to a bent part 10c, there is no fear of dislocation being generated to the folded part 10b or an interstice being generated to a joint face between the body part 10 and the folded part 10b to cause the admission of high-temperature high-pressure combustion gas, so that stable sealing performance is secured.

CONSTITUTION:Though a shim ring 20 and the combustion chamber hole 11 of a base plate 10 are worked to each prescribed shape and dimension by metal punching molding, burrs 11a are formed on the peripheral edge part of the combustion chamber hole 11, and burrs 20a and 20b are formed also at the edge part of the shim ring 20. Each direction of the burrs 20a and 20b of the shim ring 20 is set so as to be opposite direction to the surface of the base plate 10 so that no gap is generated on the joint surface between the shim ring 20 and the base plate 10 by the burrs 11a, 20a and 20b, and since the burrs 11a of the combustion chamber hole 11 are formed in the opposite direction to the top part 15a of a bead 15, arrangement is performed so that the burrs 11a of the combustion chamber hole 11 and the above-described burrs 20b are set back to back.

CONSTITUTION:When tightening force is applied to a metal gasket 1, first a protrusive part 15a of a bend 15 is brought into contact with a junction surface of a cylinder block, and the bead 15 is deformed because its height is larger than thickness of a shim ring 20. When the shim ring 20 and an opening end part 10a are tightened between a cylinder block and a cylinder head, no more progress of deformation is generated in the bead 15, and it is closely attached to both the cylinder block and the cylinder head by elastic restoring force of the bead. Here, a clearance between the cylinder block and the cylinder head is increased in the vicinity of a collective part 15c of the bead 15 as compared with the rest of the part, but in a seal member 31, thickness of a connecting part 31c is increased as compared with a flat part 31n to form a moderate mountain shape, so that an almost equal surface pressure is ensured.

CONSTITUTION:The thickness of a shim ring 20 is set to be smaller than the height of a bead 15, its rigidity is set smaller than that of a substrate 10, and the shim ring 20 is attached to the substrate substantially along the whole circumference. When a tightening force is applied to a metal gasket of this constitution, a protruding part 15a is first applied to an attached surface of a cylinder block, and because a height Tb of the bead 15 is larger than a thickness Ts of the shim ring 20, the bead 15 is deformed. When the shim ring 20 and an aperture end part 10a are tightened between the cylinder block and a cylinder head, deformation of the bead 15 is stopped, and it gets tightly in contact with both by its resiliency force to restore. The shim ring 20 thus maintains the sealing function of the bead 15, and it acts as a sealing member itself, thereby a stable sealability is secured.

At this time, a starting part 6A and an ending part 6B of a weld line 6, which is formed by the welding, are not connected to each other, but laid overlapping with each other in the circumferential direction of the shim ring 5. Accordingly, since both adhering force and rigidity of the welded part are increased, a separation of the welded part can be avoided, and moreover the occurrence of a gap in the circumferential direction between the starting part 6A and the ending part 6B can be prevented. With this contrivance, even under severe conditions, the occurrence of deformation of the gap part can be prevented, and a good sealing effect can be maintained for a long period.
