The even-numbered video signal lines 7 have one-end sides extended through external terminals 7a and connected to a common line 8, and the other-end sides are connected to an inspection pad 7d, extended as they are, and connected to a common line 10 through high resistance 9a.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of connections between the liquid crystal display panel and respective external terminals of a driving IC by forming a slit in a 1st metal layer along the side part of the external terminals of the driving IC on the side of a 2nd metal layer side. SOLUTION: On the surface of a TFT substrate 1, there is the 1st metal layer 20 where scanning signal lines are extended as they are, and a slit 20a is formed along one lengthwise side. On the top surface of this 1st metal layer 20, an ITO film 21 is formed, the 2nd metal layer 22 is formed which is connected to the 1st metal layer 20 through its contact hole 21a, and a protection film 23 is further formed covering the 2nd metal layer 22. Then the external terminals of the driving IC opposite the ITO film 21 and not opposite the 2nd metal layer 22, so it can be judged whether or not the external terminals of the driving IC are arranged at the proper positions from whether or not the side part of the external terminals of the driving IC can be observed through the slit 20a formed in the 1st metal layer 20.

    • PURPOSE:To enable driving with a lower voltage without decreasing a contrast by arranging level differences of the recesses of a protective film to be a shadow of a rubbing direction on the side outer than the boundary lines of openings for light shielding, etc. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display device is often provided with, for example, a black matrix layer which shields the edge of pixel electrodes IT01 for increasing the contast but if the openings of the protective film OPN exist in the inner side of the black matrix layer BM, the level differences from the right side to the lower side of the recessed parts OPN of the protective film PSVI are the shadows for rubbing and an orientation defective part HAT shown by hatches arises within an effective display region. This deective part is the cause for the decrease of the contrast. The level difference parts from the right side to the lower side of the recessed parts OPN of the protective film PSV1 are shifted to the outer side than the boundaryline of the black matrix layer BM. The orientation defective part HAT is, therefore, shielded by the black matrix layer BM and, therefore, the efficiency of utilizing the voltage is improved without the degradation in display quality. such as decrease of the contrast.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the electric power lines extending from picture element electrodes to common transparent picture element electrodes from forming a radial shape in the edge parts of the picture element electrodes by providing hole patterns in the parts of the common transparent picture element electrodes facing the edge parts on the root side in the rubbing direction of the picture element electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The common transparent picture element electrodes ITO 2 face the transparent picture element electrodes ITO 1 provided for each of the picture elements on a lower transparent glass SUB 1 side and the optical state of a liquid crystal LC changes in response with the potential difference between the respective picture element electrodes ITO 1 and the common transparent picture element electrodes ITO 2. Hole patterns HPT 1 are provided in the parts of the common transparent picture element electrodes ITO 2 facing the edge parts on the root side in the rubbing direction of the transparent picture element electrodes ITO 1. The electric lines of force extending from the transparent picture element electrodes ITO 1 to the common transparent picture element electrodes ITO 2 are, therefore, prevented from forming the radial shape in the edge parts of the transparent picture element electrodes ITO 1. The liquid crystal LC, therefore, rises in a uniform state over the entire surface of the transparent picture element electrodes ITO 1 and the generation of domains is obviated.
