摘要： There are provided an apparatus and an associated method for manufacturing superplastically formed structural assemblies from preforms. The apparatus includes first and second co-operable dies structured to define a die cavity therebetween for at least partially receiving the preform, at least one heater in thermal communication with the die cavity for heating the preform to a forming temperature, and at least one injector in fluid communication with the die cavity. The injector is structured for injecting pressurized gas into the die cavity to urge the preform against one of the dies to form the preform into the structural assembly. Further, at least one of the injectors is structured for injecting a quenchant into the die cavity to thereby heat treat the structural assembly while distortion of the structural assembly is being at least partially restrained by at least one of the dies.

摘要： The apparatus and method for vacuum forming a film employs a vacuum forming apparatus to form a raw film material into a patterned film material having a concavo-convex pattern. An apparatus for vacuum forming a film comprises a hollow cylindrical roller having an inner surface, an outer surface, and a plurality of vacuum passageways defined therein between the inner and outer surfaces. A mesh layer is disposed around the outer surface of the roller, forming an intermediate layer between the roller and an outer forming layer disposed around the backing layer. The forming layer is a sheet layer of a material having a having a pattern-forming array of apertures defined therethrough. A vacuum applied to an area of the inner surface of the roller draws areas of a heated film material inward against the mesh layer, forming the film material into a concavo-convex pattern.

摘要： The invention is directed to adjustable length mold assemblies for forming inflatable members and methods for using adjustable length mold assemblies for forming inflatable members, such as, for example, balloons for use with balloon catheters and stent delivery systems. The adjustable length mold assemblies comprise at least two mold pieces adapted to fit together, one mold piece having a surface configured to be slidably received by a bore of the other mold piece, the placement of one piece within the other defining a chamber of variable length which forms the mold. Each adjustable length mold assembly of the present invention is effective to form balloons, where if desired different balloons formed by a single mold may have different lengths. The adjustable length mold assemblies may also comprise a positioner to put a mold piece in a desired position relative to the other, and a locking mechanism to secure a mold piece in a desired position.

摘要： A textile material is molded by preheating to its transition temperature and then rapidly deformed by stretching without cooling. The deformation is maintained for a certain time at the preheating temperature or higher. The material is then quickly cooled. An apparatus for molding particularly fabric has a heat chamber having an opening over which the fabric is fastened, and a molding body having the desired shape and movable towards the heat chamber so as to stretch the fabric while entering partly through the opening. The molding body and heat chamber can be heated and the heat chamber may be evacuated or supplied with air under pressure for cooling the fabric.

摘要： A seamless plastic mesh bag is made from a melt of thermoplastic by forming an open mesh network of plastic strands terminating in a selvage of thickened cross-section and then stretching the mesh. The selvage forms the upper rim of the finished bag and may include integral handles and latching closures. The stretched open mesh forms the bag body. The stretching may include molecular orientation, and is accomplished by moving a mandrel against the mesh. Suitable apparatus produces bags in a desired variety of sizes and shapes.
