    • According to the present invention there are provided a catalyst component, a catalyst using the catalyst component and a process using the catalyst, for the preparation of olefin polymers high in molecular weight and relatively wide in molecular weight distribution, using an extremely small amount of a modified organoaluminum compound such as methylaluminoxane and in high yield. The catalyst component is prepared by contacting at least the following constituents (1), (2), (3) and (4) with one another: (1) a compound represented by the general formula Me.sup.1 R.sup.1.sub.p (OR.sup.2).sub.q X.sub.4-p-q where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, X is a halogen atom, Me is Zr, Ti or Hf, p and q are each an integer in the ranges of 0.ltoreq.p.ltoreq.4 and 0.ltoreq.q.ltoreq.4, provided 0.ltoreq.p+q.ltoreq.4; (2) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by the following general formulas 1 to 4: General formula 1: Me.sup.2 R.sup.3.sub.m (OR.sup.4).sub.n X.sup.2.sub.z-m-n General formul 2: Me.sup.3 H.sub.2 R.sup.5.sub.3-a General formula 3: Me.sup.4 �Me.sup.3 H.sub.b R.sup.6.sub.c (OR.sup.7).sub.4-b-c !.sub.y General formula 4: ##STR1## where R.sup.3,R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8, which may be the same or different, are each independently a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, Me.sup.2 is a Group 1, 2, 12 or 13 element in the Periodic Table of Elements, Me.sup.3 is a Group 13 element in the same Table, Me.sup.4 is a Group 1, 2, or 12 element in the same Table, X.sup.2 is a halogen atom, z is the valence of Me.sup.2, y is the valence of Me.sup.4, and m, n, a, b, c and d are each an integer in the ranges of 0.ltoreq.m.ltoreq.z, 0.ltoreq.n.ltoreq.z, provided 0.ltoreq.m+m.ltoreq.z, 0

    • According to the present invention there is provide a catalyst capable of affording an olefin homopolymer or copolymer having a high molecular weight and a relatively wide molecular weight distribution, in high yield, using an extremely small amount of a modified organoaluminum compound (particularly methylaluminoxane).The catalyst comprises the modified organoaluminum compound and a catalyst component comprising the following compounds (1) and (2): (1) a compound represented by the general formula R.sub.p MX.sub.4-p where M is a transition metal of Group IVa in the Periodic Table, R is cyclopentadienyl, substituted cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, substituted indenyl, or an aralkyl group having 7 to 24 carbon atoms, provided Rs may be bonded together through an alkylene groups having 2 to 8 carbon atoms and/or silylene group, X is a halogen atom, a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon residue having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, and p is a number satisfying the condition of 1.ltoreq.p.ltoreq.4; and (2) a compound containing carbon-fluorine bond.

    • The present invention provides an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene solution which is produced by the steps of subjecting a kerosene fraction having a boiling point of 160.degree. to 300.degree. C. to a nucleus hydrogenation treatment at a pressure of 30 to 100 kg/cm.sup.2 at a temperature of 100.degree. to 300.degree. C. in the presence of a metallic catalyst for nucleus hydrogenation of aromatic nuclei; separating and removing at least a part of n-paraffins present in the kerosene therefrom by the use of a molecular sieve made up of a synthesized zeolite in order to obtain a residual oil; fractionating the latter by a rectification apparatus to obtain a hydrocarbon mixture fraction which has a boiling point of 180.degree. to 250.degree. C. and which is substantially free from naphthalene and biphenyl; and dissolving, in the hydrocarbon mixture fraction, an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity of 8 or more in decalin at 135.degree. C.
