    • To provide a four-cycle engine for a vehicle, in which a cylinder bore is disposed in such a manner that the axial line thereof extends substantially in the horizontal direction. Furthermore, a cam shaft is disposed between an intake valve and an exhaust valve which have operational axial lines crossing each other in an approximately V-shape. The engine is capable of making the position of the outer end portion of an exhaust valve as close to the axial line of a cylinder bore as possible, thereby making the mounting position of the engine as low as possible. A cam shaft is disposed above the axial line of a cylinder bore and on a projection plane perpendicular to the axial line of a crank shaft, including the axial line of the cylinder bore. Furthermore, an angle formed between the axial line of the cylinder bore and the operational axial line of an intake valve is set to be larger than an angle formed between the axial line of the cylinder bore and the operational axial line of an exhaust valve.

    • A control system for a dust collecting apparatus including an upright housing arranged above a dust storage bin, a ceramic filter assembly disposed within the housing to collect dust particles from exhaust gases supplied into a bottoms portion of the housing located upstream thereof, and a reverse washing mechanism mounted on the housing downstream of the filter assembly to cause the collected dust particles to fall into the dust storage bin from the filter assembly when it is activated, wherein temperature (T1) and pressure (P1) of the exhaust gases supplied into the housing upstream of the filter assembly, temperature (T2) and pressure (P2) of purified gases discharged from the filter assembly into an upper portion of the housing located downstream of the filter assembly and a flow quantity (Q1) of the purified gases discharged from the housing downstream of the reverse washing mechanism are detected to calculate an average temperature T=f(T1, T2), a flow quantity �(Q=f(Q1. T)!, viscosity (.eta.=f(T) and a pressure loss coefficient K=f(.DELTA.P, Q, .eta.) of the exhaust gases passing through the filter assembly, and wherein the reverse washing mechanism is activated under control of an electronic controller when the calculated pressure loss coefficient (K) becomes more than a predetermined value (K0) and is deactivated when the calculated pressure loss coefficient becomes less than the predetermined value (K0).

    • A dust collecting apparatus, including a housing having an inlet duct, a discharge duct and filter provided therein. The filter has a honeycomb cellular structure including an inlet, outlet and a plurality of thin partition walls forming a plurality of axial passages. The filter has two groups of passages, a first group of passages that are closed along the inlet end of the filter and second group of passages that are closed along the outlet end of the filter. Further, a cover body is provided in the housing to form a chamber between the cover body and the outlet end of the filter. The chamber is in open communication with the first group of passages, and includes an outlet duct for passage of gas therethrough and to the discharge duct. Further, the housing provides an induction duct that opposes the outlet duct, for introduction of washing gas therethrough.

    • A structure has individual oil passages for different applications of oil. A torque converter is provided on a crankshaft having an axially extending center hole. A crank chamber and a transmission chamber are separated from each other through a one-way valve. A pipe is inserted in the center hole of the crankshaft to form an oil passage for supplying hydraulic oil for driving the torque converter, an oil passage returned from the torque converter, and an oil passage for supplying a lubricating oil to the area surrounding the crankshaft. The oil passage returned from the torque converter is in communication with a chamber defined by a pair of inner and outer oil seals for sealing a bearing mounted on the crankshaft, a lower portion of the transmission chamber, and an oil passage having a check valve at the downstream end thereof.

    • An output shaft structure enabling easy and secure positioning of an output shaft for a shaft driven vehicle having an internal combustion engine.     • In an engine with a torque converter for a saddle seat or buggy-type vehicle, a crankshaft and a shift drum placed approximately in parallel to a longitudinal direction of a vehicle are rotatably supported by a crankcase. The torque converter is provided on one end of an extension section of the crankshaft at an outer section of the crankcase. A double rotor type oil pump and a water pump are installed on the engine without enlarging a width of the engine. The lengths of piping to an oil cooler or radiator arranged in a front section of a vehicle body is made shortest. A part of the oil pump is overlapped with the shift drum and the torque converter, when viewed from the front of the engine. The oil pump is driven by chains from the crankshaft and is arranged in a space between an outer surface of the crankcase and the torque converter in a longitudinal direction. The water pump is coaxially connected to the oil pump and is provided on a side far from the torque converter when viewed from the center of the engine.
