    • A surgical closure device or wound closure device utilizes a slide fastener for rapidly closing a surgical incision or wound with precise apposition of the sides of the incision. Various embodiments of the surgical closure device are configured for linear incisions, shaped incisions, such as used for wedge biopsy or excisional biopsy, and long incisions, such as used for laparotomy or surgical removal of redundant skin. In one particularly preferred method of use, the surgical closure device is adhered to the patient's skin prior to making an incision and is subsequently used for closing the incision. Additional features provide for injection of anesthetics or other drugs into or around the surgical site, drainage of the surgical site, cutting guides for specially shaped incisions and controllable compression of the apposed edges for improved healing. A skin mesher device is provided for treating skin deficiency around a wound or incision.

    • A radiation protection device attaches to the C-arm of a fluoroscope and shields and collimates the X-ray beam between the X-ray source and the patient and between the patient and the image intensifier. One embodiment has a radiation shield of X-ray opaque material that surrounds the C-arm of the fluoroscopy system, the X-ray source and the image intensifier. A padded slot fits around the patient's body. Another embodiment has conical or cylindrical radiation shields that extend between the X-ray source and the patient and between the patient and the image intensifier. The radiation shields have length adjustments and padded ends to fit the device to the patient. The radiation protection device may be motorized to advance and withdraw the radiation shields. A blanket-like radiation shield covers the patient in the area surrounding where the X- ray beam enters the body.

    • An ultrasound imaging device is delivered into a body lumen by an endoscope or other elongated probe and attached to a tissue wall. The ultrasound imaging device is then detached from the endoscope so that the endoscope or another instrument can be advanced distally in the body lumen and/or through an opening or incision in the tissue wall for performing a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure while using ultrasound imaging. The ultrasound imaging device may include an expandable fixation device for fixing the ultrasound imaging transducer in a desired position within the body lumen leaving an open passage for advancing an endoscope or other instrument through the body lumen. Alternatively, the ultrasound imaging device may include an incision closure device for attaching the ultrasound imaging transducer to a tissue wall and for closing an incision after withdrawal of an endoscope or other instrument that has been inserted through the incision.
